This game should be dead per lots of people's predictions but it keeps rising again.
Why is that?
I have my opinion below but I would like to send a message out as to why this game is still good even though it has all the problems you wouldn't tolerate in a different game. Please don't fight in the thread. Each person can have their opinion.
My reason for staying: I own several FPS but this is the only game with a decent community. I like to think the corporation system has some pull on that, but other games have tried similar approaches and this game barely has any reason to be in a corporation or loyal to a faction or group. Games like BO, PS2, and BF have better graphics, mechanics, balance, and game play but they still fall short due to the people playing the game are just aholes! So why does Dust retain so many quality players? I also love League of Legends but that game was rated as the most hate filled game on the internet. Ha! My main reason for sticking around is the community and I don't think CCP has anything to do with that.

F2P games are notoriously difficult to put down. Yes, Dust 514 does have a community spirit about it (usually bitter) and that is a part of the reason it sticks around.

My main reason for sticking around is the community and I don't think CCP has anything to do with that. There is only one reason Dust continues to get people returning - Chat channels. There's no other game on console even on PS4, besides maybe FF14, that has channels you can make, invite friends, then talks through in mass. It literally has it's own teampseak, for free. that's the only reason a community was really formed and persisted, because of how easily we can stay in touch. |

When Warlords 1.2 dropped they have slightly spiked, but we know patches cause temporary increases in player interest. Give it 3 - 4 weeks and we will be right back to sub-1800 logins.

This is the only shooter I have ever enjoyed that isn't Halo 2. I don't know why I love this game so much, because god knows every other match I want to demolish a house with a sledge hammer and my bare hands. Nothing I have ever played has been so rage inducing as Dust. And yet here I am. I am a newb who stayed. |

I'm gonna say because it hit an interesting sweet spot with the latin community. I have never seen so many before. Maybe its between the cost effectiveness and the F2P aspect. But that population people are talking about is saving this game.

My main reason for sticking around is the community and I don't think CCP has anything to do with that. Its because of the skill tree. No other game besides Eve has that. But the biggest problem is balancing. The more you add on the harder it is to balance. I believe this game was a lot more fun when things were simple.

people that cannot afford to purchase a game. people that cannot afford gaming quality internet. people that cannot afford aurum, and do not support DUST.
laggers that are freeriding and have only helped to hurt the quality of experience and reputation of DUST.

A few reasons:
1. As stated, F2P games are hard to kill. "Well, I already put money into it so I might as well keep going with what I got." 2. The community is expecting the game to transition to a separate system. Thus, they keep playing. 3. More people are interested in the game than actually play. IE, Forum Warriors and people who look into crap like "CCP has a new trademark!!!"; that keeps the game alive even if they don't play. It maintains the appearance of being alive. You want to know what is killing/killed Titanfall or virtually every Battlefield/Call of Duty game that isn't the most recent? "X game is dead; no one is playing it." These games are based on trust of the game still going to continue more than anything else. 4. Along with 3, CCP is doing a really good job keeping the game alive despite Rouge essentially killing it with a very poorly timed and handled announcement. After that, they have kept their mouths shut on what is happening other than what is specifically being done with DUST even if it is incredibly frustrating to be on the side of the silence. If they announced "we do not intend to have any updates to DUST until Legion and there will be no transition", expect to even see the enthusiasm dip again. 5. You are not getting DUST fix anywhere else. It is so very specific to what it is. You aren't going to be able to play the kind of game you can with DUST anywhere else. For this regard, it doesn't matter what the state of the game is if people want that fix. If the taco stand on the street outside of your work is the only place where you can get a Dr. Pepper + Crawdad Taco, it doesn't matter if you have to wade through a heaping mass of manboobs and flatulence to get your meal.
