Sooooo....tactical weapons have more range (bigger round probably) less ammo (cool) but do LESS DAMAGE?
Huh? does that strike anyone else as a bad idea like it does me?
doesn't that basically phase it out as a weapon? shouldn't it do MORE damage? what it gives up in ROF it should make up for in stopping power, right? maybe i'm just crazy but i dunno... |

Cmon Kush!
Are you seriously trying to bring the MAG 50 cal into Dust?
Longer range = less damage.... otherwise you are encouraging everybody to play the long range game. Especially with a randomized battlefield, your going to run into people that just absolutely camp the crap out of everything from afar.
Granted, I have not played enough with these tactical guns yet to feel the difference, so Ill hit this topic back after I play around. |

It's an assault rifle. It's not meant for long-range engagements, and if you're trying to pick off far away targets, why aren't you using a sniper rifle?
I think it's just there to add another layer of versatility, albeit an extremely small niche. It's a rapid-fire sniper rifle for those that are training their assault level rather than a full-out sniper setup. |

the tactical AR has a faster ROF and more dmg already than standard ARs...... |

if it has a higher ROF than it shouldnt...PERIOD.
i'm lost if longer range=less damage than how do we explain sniper rifles? in my mind, the tactical occupies the space after the normal AR but with less distance than the sniper rifle...
we certainly dont want to recreate any MAG mechanics but i'm not sure how this would...the weapon niches in Dust are well done but this one just baffles me.
and i'm not talking some dramatic damage increase. if the equivalent AR is 42 HP the tactical should be at 60 or so i'm thinking. |

But the thing is where risk of loss is high, camping is what we as Rangers in the USAR did best when it provided the opportunity to produce the most desired result (i.e., not dying), especially if you are being placed into a position to defend a location/district. You want to cause as much damage and death as possible while mitigating any risk to yourself, your unit, your contractor, your gear, and your ego. This game is not COD, HALO, BF, MOH. This is real actions and plans leading to real consequences and rewards.
And at long range with a high caliber round does not = less damage. At 50m or 1500m a 50 cal, .308 winchester, .480 weatherby is still going to knock you off your feet, if not completely remove large portions of your body. And that is with weapons in RL. In this game snipers are shooting at you with flipp'n railguns, plasma rifles, and the such which may not, if not more than likely, hampered by our current understandings about ballistic.
As for the issue with the tactical rifles, it is on the premise that it carries less ammunition due to a larger round, then it would actually make more sense that it would do greater damage with a reduce rate of fire, the advantage being the accuracy and the ability to land more location based shots that could debilitate your targets. |

and keep in mind it doesn't encourage anything...the game allows people to use their play-styles. lastly, it just seems to fit with the already established pattern of lower ROF = higher damage.
it just doesnt make sense to me that they would do less damage. |

u didnt check the stats on the weapons before u made this post?
the tactical ARs are single shot, more zoom, faster ROF (but not by much and it still depends on how fast your trigger finger is) , and more damage as well
Tactical rifles atm seem fine imo, im waiting till hit detection is fixed proper before giving them a real go since they are single shot now in this build.
Old build before u got in it was full auto and that was the gun i used because it had more zoom |

The elite players are going to use these weapons more than anything else once the lag and hitboxes get fixed. The whole idea of these weapons are "elite". Those with the best aim will enjoy these weapons. |

Tactical ARs do have higher damage, but it's less than the slow-ROF Breach class. If hit detection wasn't so wonky Tacs would probably do a lot better than they do now. ATM since i only seem to shoot it as fast as a Breach rifle, i'll stick with the Breach. |
