When I was starting out I had no clue what scanning was. At first I was just really annoyed by it, because I had no idea what it meant but it was popping up constantly. YOU HAVE BEEN SCANNED. It would even stay on the screen while I was dead, which made it impossible to tell where someone with a needle was. A month or two down the line I finally drew the connection that, maybe, since I kept dying soon after being scanned, perhaps that meant someone had me in line of sight and was preparing to fire. Every match after that, whenever I got scanned, I would immediately duck for cover and start looking all over the place for whoever the hell was lining me up. I never did find whoever was checking out my ass, unfortunately. I did learn situational awareness and to use my peripheral vision very quickly in my efforts to find the scanner, however.
I always wondered why my gun didnt work when everyone else's very much did.
Turns out the SMG that the artificer was fit with by default didnt have the range everyone else had. |

I put points into dropsuit upgrades V
I though militia only meant things were harder to fit
I thought there was a point to basic suits |

i completely misunderstood the whole 'friendly player experience' line, seriously i skilled all my starter SP into turrets thinking i'd somehow be able to call em down like LAV's or something, i ended up starting again a week later

When I used the scanner my first few times nothing was in its cone and I thought I was doing something wrong because I thought the message on screen said I had no margin for error instead of no margin of error.
Needless to say I was really embarrassed when I finally read up on how to use a scanner. |

Ohhhh boy. I once ran INTO an orbital willingly. What was I thinking?
SP squandering. Good lord, I set myself behind like 3 weeks skilling into books that had nothing to do with my playstyle.
Dust button layout had me suiciding due to me be so used to other FPS titles that pretty much shared the same layout, except for Dust. I would throw grenades a few feet away, curse while still running towards, blow up and die. Hilarious.

I have OCD and didn't realize that reselecting vehicle active modules was indeed turning them off. I tend to select or mess with things several times to make sure whatever it is is working like it should. I wondered why I just wasn't getting any mileage out of hardeners. The glowing animation for cooldown did and does look the same to me as active.
I also only realized the first of this year how bad server lag is for me and how much I have to compensate for a full second delay for graphics, sound and damage registration.

For my first 3 - 4 days of the game I thought that passive SP was only accrued while logged in.
My PS3 hated my guts for leaving it on for that entire time.

I thought killing someone in a LP suit meant they lost 10 million ISK. Boy was I wrong, and farmed in the process.
