I left DUST a little over a year ago at the time of the "Rouge Wedding" so both the Warbarge and these lock boxes are new to me. I've read all the dev blogs going back that far and can't find any reference, nor does a forum search turn up any introduction.
Is there something I missed? Can someone point me to documentation or just give a short rundown on the purpose, controls, and any tips? |

Warbarge
Generates free stuff.
Warbarge itself is upgradeable 1-5 (now 8 I guess, but there are still only 5 systems)
And each "subsystem" is upgradeable 1-5 as well. Producing more each level.
When upgrading, careful not to upgrade your 'cooldown'. Trust me.
Each system generates something different for you. Your first system produces 'Components', which upgrade all the other systems. You'll see what each of the others do in their descriptions: One generates ISK, one SP, one is a damage mod etc. You must log in to claim these rewards.
That's all there really is to that.
Boxes
These contain goodies and are opened with 'Decryptor keys'. You earn keys through missions, or buy purchasing with aurum.
There are good things inside. I've gotten handfuls of BPO's and SKINs. If you open 10 at once (there's an option for it) you are guaranteed atleast one rare item.
Hope that helps. I've tried to explain it as simply as possible.

Thanks all!
So the WB is a bid at funding the game through Aurum sales, though you can grind it instead. It looks mostly harmless except for the 5% damage bonus everyone is going to want.
The lock boxes also appear to a funding move by putting up a wall between you and dome of your salvage, though once again you can run missions rather than buying keys and thus pay with your time instead. |

Pretty much. Also regarding warbarge slots, each sub-system level has a max storage limit. So if mobile factory level 1 produces X number of components in a 24-hour cycle, your storage capacity is like 2-days worth of components. I don't remember the numbers, as I haven't been on in a while myself, but it's not something that you can set and forget. You need to actively check in every 2 days or whatever to claim everything to avoid capping storage restrictions. That's the same for each sub-system I believe.
If you're going to do it, it may be best to max mobile factory to get the most out of your free components. Then use your stockpile to level the remaining. It get's pricey, fast.
Check the video link. Once you unlock the experimental lab it gets tricky as each level produces more gear, costing more components to claim them. At some point it becomes a choice to either upgrade other sub-systems at the cost of wasting your potential of experimental gear, or claiming the gear but not upgrading sub-systems---assuming you're not using AUR for components. What I mean is if you burn your 2-day stores of components to upgrade another sub-system, then you have no components left to claim your experimental weapons during this cycle. In that your experimental weapons can only stock X numbers of items over a 2-day window, and costs Y components to claim, you lose the potential of creating more gear for each following 24-hour cycle once capped, while waiting to save enough components to claim them next time.
You can always use AUR for components, and you can earn them a end-of-battle salvage and locked strong boxes.
Ha, I hope that still works. =\ My numbers may be off, but it's the process that I'm trying to get at
