Ok, so I would like to give my feedback on what I think of DUST so far. I will include the things I like and the things I don't like, even though I know that some of these things already have fixes incoming. Also I would like to thank CCP for making DUST 514, because even though there are some obvious things that need to be fixed I am really enjoying the beta so far.
So to start things off I would like to praise the flow of battle, I feel like it is rather well tuned. There is combat if you want it, but there are also more support oriented roles as well. It really leaves things up to your choosing. If you want to snipe and wait for the perfect kill you can, but you can also be swarming an instillation against the entire enemy team. Also the vehicle heaviness that CCP expressed would be in the game is rather prevalent, as well are the counters to these vehicles, such as swarm launchers and forge guns.
Speaking of other weapons and combat in general I find it rather well balanced. And to elaborate, I avoid taking a heavy on in the field if I can see him preemptively, because I know my Assault suit wont stand a chance against an HMG. I really like the clear differences that are being established, heavies are slow moving tanks that you would expect them to be. And scouts run like the wind but die like a moth to a flamethrower. I think that that would be one of the biggest things new players to FPS's need to understand, that it isn't a fair fight all the time, sometimes you are just overpowered in almost every way. (facing a team full of people using prototype gear is an example) The only problem I really have about combat is the poor hit detection, which I think i heard will be fixed in a future update. Soon (tm) haha.
Also i would like to point out something with the weapon selection that is present in the beta. To me it is feeling like a bit of a grind, and a bit disheartening too. I feel like having the AUR equivalent to weapons should be unlocked at the same time when you level up a skill, because to me it makes it feel like a pay to win, because if you pay money then you get a better weapon earlier than anyone else. This doesn't make it the "side-grade" thing that CCP promised, it is an upgrade. When the player market comes live it would probably make this complaint invalid, as you could just buy AUR weapons with ISK (albeit rather higher priced, but eh, thats capitalism)
One of my other complaints is the lack of support for those being medics, and support specialized mercs in general. I feel like being a support type should have more of an incentive to it. Seeing as currently the logistics suit is rather expensive to obtain, both ISK and SP wise. Also I always seem to carry a nanite injector, and even though I always carry it I have never been able ot use it once because everyone bleeds out before I can even get to them, or the simple fact that they don't know that someone with an Injector is close by, this leads to a waste of ISK for the dead merc, as well as clone reserves. I have seen multiple threads on this and I can't wait to see something implemented. As I prefer playing as a support character in most games, even if I die a lot healing teammates is a good feeling.
Another thing that I was concered about while playing the game was the support for Standard Definition TV's. I play on one due to the fact that I am a college kid and my money goes elsewhere. The HUD is rather skewed on an SD TV. Making friend or Foe recognition rather difficult. (also the text is rather small) But I think support for this was confirmed by CCP Wolfman, so good job there. (as this was actually one of my biggest concerns)
All in all I really love this game, even though there are some problems with it that are being addressed and I am really happy for the support from CCP that is being shown on the forums.
Thank you for taking your time to read this, I really appreciate any feedback you can give on my feedback. lol. (if you share the same opinions, have the same trouble, or if you think I am the worst person to come into existence, I really don't mind what type of feedback) |
