Since its time is very quickly coming, (CCP has addressed nearly everything else, so this is the only corner of the room left unpainted )GǪ it's probably appropriate to gently (please, Celesta) re-examine an old injury: The Dropship player.
Without a wish list of new playing methods, and new uses for it (these will be handled by CCP eventually without much help needed from us), I'd like to take a chance and re-post some of the SMALL things that would make the standard DS complete, as well as some of the old' tweaks other players requested long ago that WON'T interfere with the DS's level of lethalness in the match:
Remove the "module active" glow from around the turret-gunner's aiming sight and pipper (er, "pipper" is the little dot that you try to put on your target before you pull the trigger). The glow is helpful for the DS driver, but hampers the gunner's ability to contribute any of her skills accurately, as long as the glowing is on.
Add a 40% Shield bonus OR 60% Armour bonus to the passenger who mans the small turret---it won't make her invulnerable (we can't afford that to happen), but it will cause snipers and sharpshooters to have to shoot TWICE to knock the gunner out or her seat, which gives a gunner the tactical choice of being "scared off" her turret momentarily, or being shot dead if she insists on being stubborn.
Allow Bay Doors to be manually closed in progressive models of the DS. As an alternative to the turret ehp bonus above, provide 3X Armour Repair rate bonus to all passengers (not to the vehicle) as long as the bay doors are manually closed. "Manually-closed" means they are still "auto-open" when landed, or when the fire-alarm- burning-cabin animation kicks in.
In the fitting screen, show a full list of actual speed, recharge, depleted recharge, and stack penalty effects, just as what was eventually accomplished for our Dropsuit fitting screen.
Reinstate EVE Lore names to the modules that we fit to our vehicles---Twin Vane powerplant, Ward Shield extender, Nanofibre plates, Quadil Heat sink 1, etc. Let EVE players have the bland generic modules,GǪ we ARE DUST! Let our modules be more GROOVY, the way they used to be!
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

1. Module active glow doesnt really matter much AV side. Removing it from dropships likely won't break them.
2. Most dedicated gunners on dropships use fatsuits. Giving them an HP bonus is a bad idea. So no, if you can't effectively disarm the turrets things break.
3-5: have fun. None of this actually scorches gameplay.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

I agree with what Breakin Stuff says: dedicated gunners use Heavies, so HP bonuses would probably make them too resilient to ground fire. If you were suggesting it for LAVs, I'd support the notion.
The glow needs to go for the gunners, though, as it really hinders target acquisition heavily.
Bay doors idea is cool, though I'd probably prefer a Logi DS role like that rather than every DS...that said, it would make people go to get in dropships more!
Fitting screen, yeah, though we do need a HUD display for speed and altitude, etc. Otherwise knowing top speed is kind of irrelevant.
Lore names? Sure.

what I think is:
1 - yes 2 - no
3,4,5 - I am fine with that at the moment
one more proposal - put any kind of artificial horizon, speed and alt meter on the pilot HUD - it shall help a lot!
