I mean it kind of comes down to this.
For most people trying the game for the first time, they only thing they're going to have access to is Militia, so that's basically what they're going into the fight with. The issue of course is that a large portion of the community is SP saturated and runs very high level gear most of the time.
Now I like to run cheap gear, that's just how I enjoy playing the game because I want to minimize cost and maximize profits. So I find myself typically in STD BPO suits with BPO MLT modules a lot and I'm sitting on over 60 million SP, so my suit bonuses are pretty well maxed. Now I would consider myself a pretty average player, I keep a positive KDR despite using SP saturated-low end gear.
Despite this fact, when I face Prototype guys (which is fairly often these days) I REALLY have to outplay them to have a chance, either by getting a substantial drop on them or just being a significantly better player. Either way its a real ***** to kill these guys most of the time.
Now imagine coming into the game as a new player in a similar situation to mine, except lacking the understanding of the game as well as the SP used to boost the suits performance significantly. To them, someone in Proto gear is....effectively impossible to kill. Now don't get me wrong, Im not saying SP or Prototype shouldn't offer a large benefit, but the mathematical differences between that new player and that veteran player is nearly insurmountable regardless of player skill level.
So to a new player, they're going to come into the game feel like they don't even have a change to success. They may get the drop on someone and still get instantly vaporized...and while Im not saying we should cater to the carebears, a large portion of players will say "F-This" and just uninstall the game. And you can't necessarily expect a new player to get kicked in the face for 3 months while he skills up...in actuality you probably have about 3 days to get someone to be interested enough in the game to stick around, and the current differences in gear are really hindering that.
It comes down the fact that in order for the game to have a strong new player experience, the game needs to be nearly as enjoyable for a new player as it is for a veteran.
