Besides the officer variant, lasers are always that yellowish color.

The laser beam does more damage the longer you hold one beam, due to increasing heat.

I think the color of the beam should show that.

When you start firing a laser, you should begin with the flat yellowish color we have now, but move towards a darker orange, and then red as your heat increases. When you are about to overheat, the beam should be a saturated red with little flickery red lightning bolts coming off of it.

 For several reasons.

 - It would look sweet.
 - It would be easier to manage heat. You wouldn't have to take your eyes off your target to look at your heat meter.
 - It would be good for new players who don't read weapon descriptions. The weapon would clearly do progressive damage just by looking at it

That's odd. I thought that the Quafe ones had a purple laser. Are you sure only officer ones have a different color? I could be mistaken. I've never actually seen one myself.

I was hoping this would be a post asking for customizable laser bas colors, which I also would have supported, but this is a much better idea.

if u look at the coils on your gun instead of the heat build up meter, the coils start out normal and as u shoot and it gets hotter it actually starts glowing red hot before you over heat, also the laser beam gets thicker and more intense.

Only problem is the coils are right beside the heat meter anyways. Not only that, they're not visible when aiming down sights, which is 99% of how lasers are fired.

As for the beam getting thicker, I didn't believe you until I just checked. You're right, but if you hadn't pointed it out I would have never noticed.

The coils still require you to take eyes off target and the thickening of the beam can often be too subtle in the heat of battle, a color change would be much easier to notice, and should be easy enough to implement...also it would look coolhmmm perhaps visual cues for optimal range, with the beam becoming darker at the optimal damage range...

Wouldn't it make more sense for the beam to start as a dark color and get brighter as the weapon heats. Start orange build through yellow and to bright white right before overheat. Brighter colors imply more heat after all.

Regardless though this is a great idea. It informs both the person firing and the person being fired at in a visually appealing manner.

 Pedantry.

This is a potentially a useful game mechanic.

You are correct that brighter colors is a result of shorter wavelengths but hotter items emit that is brighter as well. Please read through this article for a better explanation (http://www.physlink.com/Education/AskExperts/ae569.cfm). Basically it says I'm not wrong.

This would tie in nicely with my projectile color idea.

Laser could start as a pale mix of the base color, and grow more vibrant and intense as heat level is reached.

This would seal the deal on my laser light show.

Just give the templar laser and ScR a green beam as they are suppose to have and I will be happy.

@OP The mechanics to change weapon animation colors is already in place so your time would probably be much better served proposing some basic color changes such as color progression based on tiers and special edition colors rather than proposing a giant new mechanic for one weapon which is very likely to get ignored by the skeleton crew out of the fact that there is just so many things of higher priority.
