Oh, and before anyone gets any ideas; I'm your average straight, non-religious, over-privileged white teenager. Except many of my friends are not heterosexual, and I'm trying to fathom why people want to stick their nose in other people's lives and tell them how to feel and what they're allowed to do. But, you know, "God loves everyone, except for those gay people. Make sure they don't have basic human rights because the way you roll is the 'right way' and anyone who doesn't is invalid."

Notice how it doesn't explain why. No suporting argument, no reasoning whatsoever. Kinda sounds like, I dunno, someone's opinion. Just maybe.

According to the way the story flows, God created everything, and sometimes drops some magic or communicates with his favorite humans. Never does he directly take control of someone's actions via mind control. He always speaks to them or affects the environment around them. What I'm saying is, we are human beings capable of independent thought. We can question the motives and opinions of anyone, including the creator.
So yeah, I'm judging him right now. I think he should wake up and tell his followers to stop being intolerant and stop using an old storybook as a reference guide. Seriously, it's full of ideals that don't apply to today's society, and work better with ancient times. Ya know, when it was written.
But I'll admit, religion is an elaborate system. It's perfectly designed to take advantage of human psychology and insure loyalty to the ideals written by people who want everyone to think the same way. That's pretty much what happened. That's what people do, they want everyone to think like them. They'll go to any lengths to achieve it, even violence, AKA the Crusades, ISIS, etc..
One thing I find very interesting is that we all know that arguing about religion is pointless, but we do it anyway. I suppose having the opportunity to organize our thoughts on the matter helps solidify and expand our stance on it. Or we just want to be right and wave it around. Probably that one.
