I just wanna start out by saying you guys are making an awesome and truley innovative game. Despite all of the kills that should've been mine because of wonky hitboxes, missile turrets making tanks dance, and my PS3 giving me the middle finger every round (all of which have been addressed), I'm still having a blast.
That said, you are inviting 10,000 players into the game. I wouldn't doubt a lot of these guys are going to be CoD / MAG / Starhawk / Unreal / whateverFPSI'mmissing players. I just have one request to you.
Please, when these guys offer input, remember that this game isn't supposed to be another CoD with everything nerfed down to two-shot kills and ninja's knifing everything, or an extremely fast-paced rocket launcher & flak cannon fragfest. This is an extension of Eve and should put teamwork and fittings first and foremost. Everything has a strength, and everything has a counter, with a few oddballs that can fill niches that the other suits lack. No matter what suit you're in, you can't do everything.
I just don't want you guys to succomb to floods of ragethreads (if they pop up) saying that "I can't kill this suit fast enough with my pea shooter NERF PL0X", or "MAEK TEH CARZ GO FASTUR I DYE ALOT". You guys are doing an awesome job so far, and all I've been playing is this low-textured old build. |

+1 I hope it stays as unique as it is, well, when it's out of beta, because right now, it's quite broken. |

Most of the issues that make it broken have been addressed, which is the best part. |

CCP can be praised for many things, especially sticking to their vision for a game. The major thing about DUST beta is that it's currently very simple. By the time it releases, CCP will have made DUST complex enough to take anybody that only feels like spamming the latest OP weapon/armor, chew them up and spit them out. Expect those people to rant intensely against DUST when it happens, as they are often the most vocal when they realize their... For lack of another nice word, "methods"... won't put them at the top ranks. |

People really need to stop making these "CCP PLEASE READ" topics. Granted, this topic was actually accurate and I can't fault the OP for it. That said, think of how many 'noob/moron/carebear/misc others' are posting on the eve-o forums calling for bans of X player/corp or calling for ridiculous changes because eve is too hard or because it doesn't fit their playstyle.
CCP has been at this for a long time, taking feedback for years. You should trust that they have a pretty good idea of who to listen to, and can pick out the people who are just crying for the sake of crying. I do agree with the sentiments of the post though, and made a similar one before the forums all got wiped.
As an added suggestion, I would highly recommend that some of the stickies become mandatory reading before people are able to post or view other threads at all. (upcoming patch notes, server hours, known issues, etc.) Sure, you can't be certain people are going to actually read them, but it might cut down at least some of the redundant threads, which would be awesome! |

Well, I suppose this was inevitable, but you could at least give us a chance. Besides, the sort of people who you were referring to generally would rather slice off their own arm before entering PSHome, so the Devs *should* remain relatively unmolested. |

I would also like to join my former's request in giving us a chance. Granted, the world of PS3 is full of bunny hopping, childish, arrogant twats. But you must keep in mind that for someone to get a beta key at this point they must:
- Enter PS Home (It's horrible)
- Successfully complete a bunch of silly quests (Who has the nerves for that?)
- Win a game of Slay (Really? Console kiddies thinking?)
I have a slight hunch there won't even be 10,000 new players. It's just a crazily high number for what's actually required to get in now.
I myself am a former EVE player. I left a few years back as it was taking up too much of my life. I have also served in an actual army so I do understand the importance of teamwork and specialization.
You should keep the faith. We're not all bad. :) |

Agree +1
I fear alot of people here might be under the stereo typical concole kiddie impression that is rammpent on any PC game i play and then admit i mostly play concole, in actual there are very good players on both types of system and not only does the steps above limit who gets in but very few people still know about the thing in home its almost hidden,so you need a interest first thing is about 90% of players ive seen on e3 comments and all that never heard of it often wondering when was DUST 513 relesed.
problem is to say that this tread is suggesting they ignore there potential fan base, i agree that CCP should stick to the vision and create a DUST that will be remembered as one of the greats of gameing that becomes on of the stapples like COD or battlefield and hopefully not one of the ones that died out like unreal tourny on PS3

I'm not asking that they ignore the fanbase, since they're the ones that'll be signing CCP's paychecks, just that they take their own vision into consideration when reading the requests and suggestions of the newer players. This is a great game because of CCP's ideas, and I'd hate for a group of CoD fanboys to come in and disrupt the path the devs are taking because this game isn't close enough to what they're used to. |

Well said, sir. And to all of you who are coming here from more popular shooters, I think as long as you're willing to change your playstyle to fit the type of game you're playing, you're exempt from the "CoD kiddy" archetype.
When I talk about "CoD kids" in frustration, it's the people who lone wolf with an assault rifle headfirst into an enemy encampment, thinking their 1337 skills will beat out anything that can be thrown at them, or spend all their time just hunting kills instead of even remotely working on taking objectives or defending or whatnot.
This game is going to pretty much require teamwork to win. Maybe not from every last person, but at least a significant portion of a team.
I fully expect people just learning the game to be running around confused. I know I was at first. I think there's a bit of information overload at the start, and would highly recommend an offline tutorial against bots to familiarize with all the HUD/Map icons, the general flow of the game and the importance of Clone Vats.
Seen a lot of games lost because everyone is so focused on the lettered objectives that they completely ignore everything else until they realize all their spawn points are gone and the enemy is just camping your base's spawns and you are pretty much sunk.
In general, it's hard to get random PS3 players to work as a team, but I have to say that I've been pleasantly surprised by how much of it I've seen the few times I got to Squad Lead and lay down waypoints for people.
Speaking of which... If you're Squad Leader, lay down some waypoints! Give the squad orders! I've only had one match where a not-me SL was giving orders, and the difference tends to be big. People follow blinking objectives. They don't tend to check the map to see where squaddies are and follow them around.
Of course, there are exceptions to any example anyone can give, and I mean no disrespect to anyone who feels I'm attacking the way you play. |

Your first few lines are exactly in-line with my sentiments. The lone-wolf gun-toting rapemachine doesn't exist here, and the sooner these guys realise it, the sooner they either adapt or go back to their other games.
Squads calling out waypoints would be great, however under the circumstances we operate with as of right now, they are understandably lacking. I'm sure this will change when corps are introduced and teamplay becomes more essential.
Like you said, if you're willing to change your playstyle to adapt to this game of strengths and weaknesses, I don't consider you part of the CoD kiddies, just another fellow player. |
