Though having more than one oponent, the HMG and every scout in the world, has made it an uphill battle. Months later I have the Gallente Assault to level V, AR damage Proficiency to V, AR sharpshooter to level V and biotics to level V.
The conclusion? Without stealth or an extreme amount of health I'm just cannon fodder in CQC. Heavies outclass me and if there's more than one scout rushing me then my AR proves to lack stopping power.
So, I have gone back to my roots. I have re acquired my Minmatar Assault suit, Flaylock Pistol, Locus Grenades, Myofibril Stimulants and added a Mass Driver and Remote Explosives.
I am now a terrorist for hire. Any insurgents that want to make an impression and lack a desire to move minimize collateral damage to a minimum please contact me.
Lol, all things I think have issues on a console shooter :) I find AOE spam in this game to be too powerful due to the generally imprecise nature of a console shooter and the lack of any discernible logic (or the ability to change the damned control layout) in the bindings.
I'm not suggesting that people absolutely cannot be precise, there are clearly people who have excellent aim, even taking into account the massive drawback to a pad, but on the whole, casual players will never reach that level and AOE does really good damage even if you don't hit so it just gets spammed to death. In most games I'm personally in, I find that more than half of each side is spamming AOE of some description (not counting grenades) and I really don't think that's good. |

I decided to use explosives because I can quickly down a large crowed of enemies. This is paramount because the biggest tactic used in this game is to simply rush an objective with as many people as possible. Previously my favorite light weapons were the Combat Rifle and Scrambler Rifle.
You see, to me that just implies that the splash damage on explosive weapons is far too high. That you can very quickly down a large group of enemies is in no way a good thing to me. But maybe I'm just old-fashioned and remember when you could do that without the use of explosive weapons on older shooters but can't any more. |

You can't down a large number of people in this game because everyone had high health. Explosives, turrets, off map support and vehicles are the only ways to actually destroy a large amount of people. Explosives are good because they help to prevent people from wandering around in mobs of proto players.
I think that's part of the problem. Very high health means you either tank up to the nines or die. Even with the very high health you can still go down really quick to proto weapons. For me it just reinforces AOE as a dominant force in the game and I don't know if it should be that dominant.
Note, I'm neither for or against it, I just don't know if it should be that dominant, there's an awful lot of it. I'm also not for the ability to mass-kill a lot of people. Things like warbarge strikes make me irrationally angry as they reinforce someone/a team that is already doing very well most of the time. Vehicles I can see, but they should have their own weaknesses, but a lone guy on foot outside of certain circumstances shouldn't be able to mass kill the way I've seen them do in this game. Just my opinion. |
