Good Day,
It used to be pretty clear in the past, If i saw someone with 10 deaths they shouldn't be in the match they were in. They somehow got stuck with better players and just couldn't hang with the speed or the style of play. This happens to 90%+ of us at some point in this game.
Everybody has better equipment, better skills, better knowledge of the map and game play and you just get over whelmed and blown away.
If someone gets stuck in this rut for 3-4-5 matches in a row, most folks give up and go to some other game that is less "vicious" or easier.
I used to be able to see folks run out into the open and start shooting at someone, I could tell they were newbies or hadn't looked around enough. You could also tell these folks from the death totals. I see someone!!! start shooting at them, before they shoot at me.
0/7 or 0/10 etc. They might get a kill or two , but most of the time points earned were from assists or revived folks or dropped ammo or uplinks.
Now you have folks going 7/10, 9/6 all the time. A few folks at the bottom are going 2/8 or 1/7 etc. and are getting 100 or 50 points.
For a while, when I was clearly over my head, I switched to Sniping and never quite got the nack of it, but I was no longer dying 8-9-10 times in matches. Then I switched to Logi and equipment. I started moving up the killboard. I still rarely get 10 kills, but top 5 happens regularly even in matches where I'm clearly outmatched.

Now what is the point. How do you get more new players to switch from failed Medium and Assault killers to useful and productive Logi's or Support Lights.
I don't know. Maybe shift Logi to Primary suit instead of Secondary/Medium. The SP required to reach Advance and Proto Secondary suits is a lot higher than primary level suits. You also have to be at least 3rd level in Medium just to get to Logi suits - how many folks don't get this far?
-
Maybe this would allow the mythical Battle Logi suit to become a secondary suit to primary Logi. Gain some shields and armor for the loss of one equipment slot and some bandwidth.
Maybe add a Support Medium, with 2 equipment slots, but they lose a hi or lo slot. (logi light) Maybe build into support medium an injector (basic, adv, or proto equal to suit with say half the pg and cpu usage) - every racial version has it and a second blank equipment slot. Now they can put something else over it, but normal PG and CPU rules apply. Bump the cost of the suit up a few thousand ISK.
--
Too many people try to get 10 kills and end up with 10 deaths in this game, while not enough folks rep or reveive or drop uplinks etc.
You have the spamming games and the desert games, I rarely see a middle ground anymore.
In some matches where folks are running as much Officer and Proto gear, as possible I'm running a basic or advanced Logi with some proto, but mostly advanced gear and getting top 5. To be clear- mostly proto equipemnt, but advance weapons, shield and armor.
In a fire fight, I die. These suits are not capable of killing assaults, or heavies, head to head, when I do kill one of these it's usually as part of a group or I surprised them. The PG and CPU bonuses apply for all levels of suits, not just Advanced or Proto suits. I honestly wonder if folks realize this.
--
Maybe open up Intel war points to all Logi's regardless of being in a squad or not. Maybe tweak their scan profile, so they are harder to see. I don't know.
More people at the bottom need to know how to get points in this game, besides the obvious kills and assists. A suit with an injector and a rep tool can win a match for some teams.

Edit: also, I've noticed that most people hate running a support-style role. Its not for everyone. Most people would rather leave than give up the run-n-gun.
Maybe I made myself unclear. I did not say make it the "Primary suit of Noobs." I suggested moving it up one level on the skill chart, to make it equal to medium, light and heavy. Make it cheaper to try out.
I do not suggest that "noobs" put every bit of proto gear they possibly can onto the suit and make it as expensive as possible.
I'm saying that some folks would benefit from knowing this category of suit exists, before they have to spend a month building up SP and wasting some of that on other things.
-maybe make militia versions of each logi with just 2 equipment slots. Let folks try them out on the super cheap.

Some people are best as Scouts or Heavies or Assaults or Logis. So be it, some people suck at logi, some are terrible at heavy. I'm not saying you can't run them. Or that one is better than the others.
This game needs not just new players, but new players that stick around longer than a few massacres. Others slog threw massacre after massacre apparently.
Give them the ability to try out the different kinds of suits- sooner.
Maybe make some logi loadouts or light loadouts. I mean seriously how many newbies know they can get WP for using a rep tool on another player??
- Maybe on the equipment description page list the WP's that can be earned by skilling into the item.

BPO's do contribute to the overall higher risk taking in the game and frankly a shift to mediums and assaults. People used to try and kill folks and not die. Now people try to kill folks and don't care so much about not dying. I've seen players run into a crowd of reds, drop a remote and blow themselves up along with several reds. I've seen some folks do the same kind of thing with plasma canons and grenades.
Some are mistakes and miscalculations, others, I'm not so sure.
People at the lower end of the ISK chain can't afford to do things like this and frankly don't think to do something like this until days or weeks or months into games like this.
Each night when I log in the number of players seems to be shrinking. Some of it is the time of year, some are just gone.
