Before matchmaking, I was getting wrecked by Proto dudes. After matchmaking, I'm still getting wrecked by Proto dudes (but less since I got ADV gear). What's the point of matchmaking? I still see dudes with MLT gear fighting dudes with Proto gear in the same match. I don't know what matchmaking is based on but anybody can create a new character with passive SP, come back in like a year and spend his 9M SP (approximatively) to get Proto gear and wreck those academy dudes. This is a long but very easy process. You don't actually need to PLAY the game in order to get better gear. You can just wait and that's it. (Even though you have to fight to get ISK)

You will find it uprising that even with your proto gear you will get owned. There isn't much difference between proto and advanced already , so I fell sorry for you putting your hope in all of the proto gear. Try changing your playstyle , run in squads with people that know what they are doing, maybe join another corp. Just don't post here , it's a waste of time and most of the people will troll the s*it put of you.

you got a problem with mlt gear? I happen to be able to maintain a positive KD against proto players while being aggressive
no only that but with the right skills a mlt player can own a proto player with dumb investments fairly easy and give those with good skill investment a good fight especially if that mlt user is more skilled then that proto player
also a lot of these "proto" players are really just apex users that die fairly easily due to recklessness because they are in free of cheap suits |

also I've seen plenty of dumb proto scouts (or should I say proto scrubs) try to fool me by standing still when I am using std gear with complex precision enhancers

It's all about lag. When I have the better ping other players don't even react until I'm half way through them. Usually though it is me with the bad ping (or rather them with bad ping causing them to speed up to load on my screen) and they shoot me while still being behind a wall, only to come out and do the shooty animation on my death screen.

Match making only comes into play when there are two or more lobbies of equal connection status that are favorable to you.
This game doesn't have an abundance of players so often you will find that there's only one lobby with favorable connection and others lobbies with a much more mediocre connections. Since this is often the case you will end up in the match with the best connection and match making won't have any affect.

I could be mistaken, but I believe matchmaking was intended to be about similar SP levels. meaning one guy could have spent his SP on proto gear while another with the same amount of SP spent their's (wisely) on passive skills. so while the 2 would have different equipment levels, they each invested the same amount differently. go for those passive skills first.
you should not spend on more than one suit and one weapon until those are maxed out and max your passives. |

I'm 100% sure matchmaking isn't based on SP (or maybe there was an error that day) because I one played in the same team as saxonamish.

Well, they didn't do much to adjust squads - a good 6man squad can still dominate a game... and the reason you're seeing MLT people in 'higher' bracket matches is either because they were in pub squads and got sucked into the high bracket, or they pulled a bunch of scrubby stuff that works well on low bracket people... but doesn't work at all on high bracket people.

I don't believe there really are two separate Mu queues: when my alts got out of the Academy, they were fighting top-tier Proto players every match.

You are getting wrecked more because of the lack of effort from your teammates more than anything the enemy is using.

@ OP
Matchmaking works from time-to-time, but I don't think it is working as intended. Rattati recently updated Trello and hinted at changes to squad size. If implemented, these "Fireteams" of 4 might solve some of the quality issues which are being created by larger squads. Hang in there; it'll get better. o7

THIS!
I love to play proto for one major reason : it looks badass ! But honestly, a good team of STD geared guys could wreck any proto players. The difference isn't as big as it used to be pre Uprising 1.3 (where AA was implemented IIRC). Using proto doesn't make you a better player. Those who say "I lost because he played proto" should've play proto themselves and see if they could've win. But I honestly doubt that.
WON'T YOU PLEASE TAKE ME HOME !

I have observed a "new" tactic as of late, which might explain why you see BPOs and STD gear in higher tier matches. Shock and Awe.
Basically the team goes all-in with full Proto / Officer gear until they break the enemy's will to fight (people leaving, sniping, scattered etc), and then switch to BPOs and APEX suites to "mop up". You notice this by the kill feed.
It's highly effective, but can be countered if you just hold it together for the first 2-3 minutes. If they see the tactic does not work, they might be the ones that leave. (Or at least switch down to a more cost effective suite) |
