I have a few proposals to get rid of the scumbaggery that is seemingly inescapable in this game, and by that I mean people getting to high places and deploying Uplinks and/or dropping down to win matches.
Would it be possible CCP to make it so -
GÇó Drop Uplinks automatically blow up like they used to when you put them on anything but completely flat, open ground when placed over a certain height in the level? take say, the lowest roof next to an objective and make that the cap - then *poof* no more scumbags - you can still traverse the rooftops as free as you like, but putting down pads is impossible *Or* GÇó Make it so all the common (you only have to play a level once or twice before you realise which these are) scumbag spots are covered in that funky green stuff that slowly damages you - thereby the pads get destroyed after a matter of seconds. *Or* GÇó Make all the high, flat spots completely slanted so clones/vehicles/equipment simply slide off to the area below
I really think it would improve gameplay if this weren't the 'go-to' stratagem once the match begins. Hopefully the upcoming strafing changes will make the game a little more 'grown up' but this type of cheap $hit really needs to be stamped out.

i know what you mean. it gets so boring watching the rafter uplink spam tactic. as a shotgunner im a cqc guy by default, shotguns cant shoot 60m up in the sky and peg a guy. granted its fun lasering people from the rafters, but i try and get up there on my own, not deploy on a uplink.

Placing uplinks in high places/Hidden places is actually more tactical than just placing them on the ground to get spawn camped. I see no problem with uplinks in high places unless poorly placed.

Maybe... at least make them reachable so they can be countered, spending innumerable seconds calling in a cheap DS to try and get up there to flux them, then being shot down by 4/5 swarms/forges/PC's is a complete waste of time and energy and no-one is having fun while your team of Nyain Chan fools or Duuuurty boys camp atop the point firing mass drivers down until the rats are cleared and hacking the point with 5 heavies and their logi-limpets... yes yes - teamplay blah blah but sometimes you just want to jump on and play a few matches to have fun, you know? |

Controlling the high ground has been a thing in warfare for as long as it's been recorded. CCP has been making it worse by trying to make rooftops inaccessible, like how they completely broke the orbital artillery.
What we need is dropships that don't suck.

I completely agree with you there - access to the areas where people commonly camp would go a ways to resolving the issue - just a flight of stairs, stacking of sequentially larger objects or at the very least a ladder would really help to combat this crap. |

you know all those things that people complain about such as myos or the things that people consider pointless like small flux strikes?
well thats your counter so use it instead of complaining
you also have access to drop ships with mobile cru's
you can counter high ground by sniping people off of the top of buildings
it only takes 300 WP to use a small flux strike
most roofs you can access trough use of myos
if you are complaining about roof tops then you need to learn how to play this game its not all about who has better gun game this is a tactical shooter as stated by Rat man or at least thats the direction this game is going hopefully
if roof tops ruin your game then learn to use them to your advantage

As Sicerly already pointed out, there are flux strikes that you can use to take out uplinks as a squad leader.

The problem is, a minor flux strike has a smaller radius than a flux grenade.

People complain about them because of their multi-fuctional uses, which they should not have. Also, its the scrubbery that goes with them, every jumper I have seen has a splash weapon. And yes it can prevent camping, more often than not it adds to the problem.

Nah, the problem is that a minor flux strike doesn't do enough damage to pop advanced links, and doesn't land where you think it will because the overhead map has an angled perspective, and the bombardment area isn't highlighted. Minor flux strikes are a joke, and will probably never get addressed.

Placing uplinks in high places/Hidden places is actually more tactical than just placing them on the ground to get spawn camped. I see no problem with uplinks in high places unless poorly placed. Because it leads to boring games where the enemies don't push or just sit up there and the game becomes boring and when they do jump down it just becomes bloob farming.

I like being able to place them on high ground. It does not win matches. I've been in plenty of games where that didn't lend an advantage. What I don't like is people grabbing a mil DS to do it, thus effectively making a skilled DS pilot useless.
I don't like that links can be placed in covered or glitched places though. Maybe they could be restricted to open areas of buildings and hover slightly over areas so they can't get glitched into the graphics so they can be shot by an ADS et al.
I wouldn't mind if we were just able to climb to the roof of buildings using stairs.
The CPM candidate we need, not the one we want. Friends are nice, ideas are golden.

sadly, when you play a game with real people, they will ruin it in whatever way possible; by either having a big ego and feeling great about winning in cheap ways, or they get a kick out of the dumbest things like making people mad over a video game. some of these guys are easily entertained. I used to get a laugh from watching stuff like George Carlin videos....but yeah I guess people getting mad over a game is....funny too? I dunno..... kids |
