You might be surprised with what the community can come up with.
Similar to the community driven 'Design a SKIN' challenge, why not a 'Design a MAP' challenge?
I'm aware that new maps aren't a high priority, however there would be a lot of benefits to something like this.
- More diversity, we're supposed to believe we're fighting across thousands of planets. We're gonna need a lot of maps to make that believable. Obviously maps would have to meet specific criteria.
- Maybe players could find and fix existing problems, such as tweaking the Gal lag facility.
- Some balance issues I believe boil down to maps that favor certain play styles and classes. Maps could be re-designed to apply to the current game balance.

We've seen with the mcc construction facility that CCP has the ability to blend socket assets. For some reason it caused fatal errors on few peoples systems.

I doubt it would fix existing problems; if anything, it would make them worse.

Because we don't know exactly what caused the fatal errors on the MCC Construction Facility to begin with. Giving us the ability to generate our own maps without a thorough understanding on what caused the problem in the first place is like giving a mechanic a set of faulty power tools. You're not going to get positive results.

That's the kind of pessimistic attitude that gets people nowhere in a hurry.
I've never understood the "something might go wrong so lets not try" mentality.
