While that made me giggle, the Matar were not the most advanced considering the Amarr had lasers, conquered vastly more systems than the Minmatar, and you know... The whole reclaiming thing :D
BUUUUUTTTT, in their minds, I'm sure they thought they were the most advanced at the time. Whether in fact they were or not, they didn't know that until they were already slaves.

Super high competition and cooperation from both sides has proven to give both empires the kickstart necessary to catch up to the Amarr in terms of expansion despite the Amarr being a LOT older.
