I figured since this is a closed beta and there is a feedback forum, I would discuss a few things I have learned since I started playing last night.
First off, I was given a key May 16th, but didn't even know about it until I read on the Eve forums that the code would be sitting in my eve accounts information page. I was patiently (yeah right) waiting for an email that would notify me of the opportunity to test out the game.
Second on the crashes. I know by now that a lot of people are aware of random crashing. I have been trying to test out different ways to get the PS3 to crash and have not found any significant evidence to point toward any specific cause, though I suspect that joining, canceling then joining another match may play a part in he game crashing for some players.
On that note, occasionally when the game doesn't crash when I do the above, I will be logged into another match as far as voice chat is concerned, while I am either in a completely different match or in the case of one instance: On the other team.
Skillpoints: Is the current rate in which we gain skills the rate at which it will be upon launch? I am wondering this, because I personally feel it is a -tad- on the high side. I know it has been offset by getting lower the more matches you are in, but I still think the -general- rate in which we gain skillpoints is a little high (I know, not many probably agree).
Strafing: Side to side strafing seems a bit odd. I can keep someone in my reticle(spelling? and shoot for days without doing much damage. Same is true for someone shooting at me... Unless I am using a Scrambler Pistol, then my shots land unless I actually shoot off taget.
Finally (for my gripes), Voice Chat. Not enough people even know it is available. It is turned off as default, and that's all right, but most people don't even know to check out their options to turn the voice chat on. I generally mention it during a match when I am the only one communicating, but there seems to be a vast majority who still aren't getting in on it yet. Either that, or they are doing something silly like using TS3, or Mumble.
On to the good comments: Gameplay is EXCELLENT. It is definitely on par or better than the majority of other games out there. I have always liked the skill specializations that Eve uses (though unlike here, I think the skill progression is a little on the low side on there) and seeing it used here makes me happy in a very 'special' way.
Barring the shotgun bug, all of the weapons seem to be on par with how they should likely operate. Some people complain about the chaingun, but I've had some level of success at plugging up a chaingun heavy with a few well placed shotgun shots (when it actually deals damage).
Vehicles are extremely fun to use. I haven't gotten into the logistics vehicles yet, but the initial ones that you can get after skilling into them... They're good. Someone mentioned wishing the dropship had a better training radius or better speed... I looked at the skills and modules and there are definitely items and skills that will assist you on that.
EDIT: Disregard on the skills. After looking into it a bit further, I feel that it is good to go! |
