You're welcome to give it a shot.
I'd recommend getting a Bachelor's in Computer Science - General Concentration, first. That way you at least have half an understanding of what python/C++/java programming are.
And please don't say you can't afford it, if you live in America you can get a government grant that will cover a pretty sizable portion of your tuition and there is also scholarships available for -literally everything up to and including being left handed-.
At any rate, once your done with college, you'll want to have a portfolio of stuff you've worked on. I'd recommend a handful of mobile apps -that are actually functional and available on the iOS store/Google Play- otherwise you don't have anything to really show for it.
Once you're done with that you'll want to head over to ccpgames.com/jobs and throw in an application, but be forewarned as they usually require a few years of experience. Which brings me to the next part: You'll want to work for a start up company of some kind, preferably in game design, as there won't be any major companies that are going to trust their products/franchises in your hands right out of college for obvious reasons.
So, throw together a few Skyrim and Left 4 Dead mods - get them functional, working, and highly popular. That'll add to your portfolio a bit. While you're at it come up with a side project and throw it up on kickstarter, something simple like an indie game. But to do that you're going to need an artist to make it look fancy (and a writer, based on your grammar skills). Once that's done you'll need to ship it out to all your kickstarter backers. It is okay if you don't have any, Five Nights at Freddy's didn't earn a single cent from their kickstarter and they wound up selling thousands at least.
Once you've gotten a few years experience and a good portfolio under your belt you can apply at CCP, do the interview (probably over the phone/skype since they're based in Iceland/China) and hope you get the job. Once you do, then you can totally show those ****ers who's boss!
EDIT: Oh, and, word to the wise. Word on the street (job review sites) is that CCP Games likes to double-up on responsibilities. QA Analysts who, at other companies just test for bugs, have to fix the bugs they find over at CCP Games. That and I also hear they pay less than industry standard, so you might want to take that into consideration. Either way, I can't wait to see your CCP dev name!!

This is always such a lazy argument to posit when someone questions the quality of work being done in any field.
Prosperous humans usually specialize in a particular field of work. Our society is built around it.
To suggest that because someone isn't trained in a different field other than their own precludes them from the right to point out flaws where they are seen is lazy and ludicrous.

It'd be different if he were in any way constructive in his criticisms. He's just saying they're "unprofessional and ridiculous", accusing them of drinking on the job. Clearly he doesn't have any respect for them; the things they do right. So, I figure if he's got such a problem with it, then clearly he must be better at the job because he assumes the right to complain - actually, not even complain, more like rant - about it without ACTUALLY doing anything himself to offer up a better solution.
Sure, it is a lazy argument to come back with but it is even more lazy to mindlessly ***** about something you have no clue about without offering anything in return. S'like when people in America (I live here so I notice) always complaining about 'Obama this' and 'Obama that' but you don't see anyone taking any Political Science, Debate, or Leadership classes - no, they just want to sit on their laurels and complain about the situation. Because it is just easier than doing something about it.

In all fairness a bit of research into CCP will show you that their developers are not the issue.
****** pay, doubling up work load, terrible upper level management organization, even moving devs from job to job without warning are all things which more than a few ex-employees have referenced.
Even in the developer spotlight for the QA leader he referenced both testing and trying to fix bugs along with getting bug reports form outside which is the most horrible idea I have ever heard. How is a QA person suppose to maintain testing cycles on new patches when they are still busy testing old patches that they did not even get half the problems fixed due to more problems of a "higher priority" keep coming up that they have to stop any testing to try to work on?
If you don't like stupidity stop giving CCP money until their investors wise up and run the failed management regime out of CCP headquarters and drop them in a volcano for wasting all the money on failed projects while they managed to simultaneously run a project with a lot of promise that was already starting to work into the ground.
I have had to stop even looking at these things be cause I honestly feel sorry for every person that has fallen under their employment only to find out they were going to end up with a blemished resume just by proxy.
TL;DR
If you dont like it move on, this is how CCP works and how they have always worked.
If you are still here at least be coherent in your rants and actually attempt to make a valid point. |
