Ratatti you once sayd that you want dropships to be the natural counter vs tanks (just like they are in Battlefield). The only real way to achieve this without making dropship overpowered as hell would be to allow the passangers to use their weapons from a passanger seat with no limitations. So im gonna get trough what this would achieve and what roles would get a boost:
-Commandos and AV: This role would basically become the go to suit if you wish to help dropships in combat. Having a anti infantry weapon and swarm launcher/plasma cannon would make it versatile to defend the dropship but aswell to hunt down pesky tanks.
-Armor/shield logistics: A logi with a reptool could actively repair the dropship while beeing airborne and thus increasing the survivability of armor tanked dropships. However there should be shield recharger tools to give shield dropships the same benefit (caldari logi change+shield tool needs to be implemented for this).
-Heavys with forgeguns those could be the long range anti vehicle denial. Forgeguns have the same range like a large rail however their rate of fire is much slower and shoting a forgegun from a dropsip while its moving would probs be rather difficult.
-Massdrivers this is probs the main point that the community will rage about the most. Massdrivers beeing fired from a dropship onto infantry. Though you forget that the main issue wouldnt be the massdriver more that small missiles lack firepower. You must aswell keep in mind that massdrivers run out of ammo fairly quick and you cannot restock ammo while flying. A dropship would have to constantly land somewhere to allow the usage of nanohives which takes time and makes it vulnurable.
Overall it would add more versatility to dropships and not just be "lol cannonfodder" for swarm launchers. This way you could aswell try to assault tanks that are camping in the redline. Get 2 swarm launcher buddys, quickly fly in and launch a barrage made out of painfull missiles onto that freeloading ponce.

I'm not one for hyperbole but airborne swarm launchers would be the worst thing ever!
That said, the rest is fine, it would actually create a benefit to loading up the dropship

Salutations, Bright Cloud. I am eager to see what CCP does with the Dropship in the approaching Updates. I've invested a lot of grind into being a transport operator, and to me it's still a profession with a TON of cool potential in FW and PC matches.
But, if Rattati really wants to make the DS a "weapon" against HAVs, that's one idea I would not be enthusiastic about. There is already enough potential to be an anti-vehicle device in the "Assault-Series" dropships. I'd hope the meat of any Dropship updates or revamps in the future would focus on the (original?) vision of the dropship as a an infantry-supporter and delivery device that's unmatched by any other means of transport.
There has always been a lot of potential already in the DS, to break the backs of attacking squads, loosen up or destroy an entrenched enemy, and deny an area of the map to incoming enemy vehicles. It has just required cohesive cooperation between DS operator and players aboard the ship---and that's the thing that makes many parts of the game stay handicapped. Not enough PS3 players agressively practice (or even believe in) coop or partner-work. SOME do, but not enough to make something like the Dropship shine and own the matches the way I've seen it do sometimes (and was lucky enough to have been part of sometimes).
If enough of the right teamwork was going on inside them, and going on more often, we players would quake in our suits at the sound of a DS approaching (instead of droolingly hoping to shoot down the 'golden blimp' for 150 wp). Operator turning it, and turret-gunner understanding her intentions and coordinating with her, is ALL the shooting a DS really needs to handle even HAVs.
We had a long debate back in 2013 about what would happen if passengers were allowed to throw AV rounds, sniper shots, McDonalds wrappers and pooper-scooper bags down on ground-players in these matches. You may not see the future as I am imagining it, but I think it would become a horrible disease.
But, we'll have to see what the near future holds, won't we.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

It still sounds a little OP to me, Bright Cloud. Someone else suggested some time ago that players could only use weapons on the dropship when its doors are open which only happens when near the ground.

I won't believe anything till I see it, since there aren't many / any dedicated and skilled pilots wasting their time doing CCPs balancing for them (like with tanks), it's no wonder we've yet to see any changes.
And as a long term pilot, I 100% oppose letting infantry use their weapons and things from inside of a dropship. If you think that wouldn't be OP as all hell, then you clearly haven't seen good pilots lmao.

Actually you can open the doors manually in mid air by pressing X. You dont really see it from the pilot view on armor dropships like the gorgon/grimsnes but the animation is noticeable on shield dropships.

I wasn't play for almost a year after FF2014, because I waiting for Legion, but after it was.....let say delayed...I decide to remove the dust from my PS3 and see what is happen with the game.
Flying the DS/ADS is still fun for me, especially with side gunner - my favorite type of game. Also you can be a support not only with firepower, but using CRU or scanner. But what about anti tank role.
In 2013 I was proposed how to add additional role to the DS as anti tank vehicle. But instead adding more firepower I propose to add possibility to carry additional EWAR charge. Imagine you can use additional item that can be thrown over the tank and reduce tank speed up to 90% for 20 seconds. Or prevent rotating its turret for 20 seconds? Or dim with 90% the tank driver monitor for 20 seconds making him almost impossible to aim or drive.
The idea is DS pilot to be able to help to the ground troops to kill the tank, not doing it itself. And of course it shall use PG.CPU so the pilot trading that for tank and firepower.
in 2013 the idea was new and there was a lot for and against it. May be 2 years later it can be discussed again..

I'd allow it.
Provided that dropships exploded when they reached 0/0 instead of giving everyone time to bail.

WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.
