Salutations, Bright Cloud. I am eager to see what CCP does with the Dropship in the approaching Updates. I've invested a lot of grind into being a transport operator, and to me it's still a profession with a TON of cool potential in FW and PC matches.
But, if Rattati really wants to make the DS a "weapon" against HAVs, that's one idea I would not be enthusiastic about. There is already enough potential to be an anti-vehicle device in the "Assault-Series" dropships. I'd hope the meat of any Dropship updates or revamps in the future would focus on the (original?) vision of the dropship as a an infantry-supporter and delivery device that's unmatched by any other means of transport.
There has always been a lot of potential already in the DS, to break the backs of attacking squads, loosen up or destroy an entrenched enemy, and deny an area of the map to incoming enemy vehicles. It has just required cohesive cooperation between DS operator and players aboard the ship---and that's the thing that makes many parts of the game stay handicapped. Not enough PS3 players agressively practice (or even believe in) coop or partner-work. SOME do, but not enough to make something like the Dropship shine and own the matches the way I've seen it do sometimes (and was lucky enough to have been part of sometimes).
If enough of the right teamwork was going on inside them, and going on more often, we players would quake in our suits at the sound of a DS approaching (instead of droolingly hoping to shoot down the 'golden blimp' for 150 wp). Operator turning it, and turret-gunner understanding her intentions and coordinating with her, is ALL the shooting a DS really needs to handle even HAVs.
We had a long debate back in 2013 about what would happen if passengers were allowed to throw AV rounds, sniper shots, McDonalds wrappers and pooper-scooper bags down on ground-players in these matches. You may not see the future as I am imagining it, but I think it would become a horrible disease.
But, we'll have to see what the near future holds, won't we.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
