In enclosed maps, I usually employ hit-and-run tactics with a BrAr and KinCats. The GalAss may not be the best at this style of play, but it works decently when holding down objectives.
My problem lies in open maps with limited cover. Too often am I gunned down because my weapon lacks the range to compete with other rifles. I've tried speed tanking in hopes of closing distances to get into the AR's optimal, but I'm usually dropped swiftly due to lack of tank (3 damage mod, 2 kincat build).
With high tier scanners being fielded 24/7, flanking also becomes difficult when the enemy has constant intel of my positions, leaving me to scrap any Profile Dampeners on my fits as they fail to keep me hidden. I've tried counter engaging enemies at distances with the Tac and Burst ARs, but they still fall short against fully automatic Rail and Scrambler Rifles.
In all, the only tactic that has somewhat worked is trying to bait opponents and let them run into the ARs range. However, most players in my bracket of matches are smart enough to avoid falling for this trick. To the experienced GalAss users, are there any tips you could share with a newb like myself? |

Equip a rail rifle if you can live with yourself. |

Switch to a TAC ar. You get more out of damage mods and it has better range.

With this fit and good skill, you don't have to worry much about dying anywhere. Just stay away from fire to repair. Plus it's sorta cheap and very effective.
Assault g/1 Any adv assault rifle (your choice tho I recommend burst it tactical) Smg of choice Grenade if choice 2 Krins mod (with stack penalty you get like 6-7% for both weapons with less pg/cpu. It's free an better than one pro light and sidearm.
Adv plate, ferro, reactive, and rep.
Equipment of choice preferably nanohives. For better survivability, use compact hives.

I recommend the burst AR its fairly decent at range and does well in CQC as well
as for the suit try stacking repair moduals this way if you are getting shot at from range you can regain health quickly |

The game only supports 2 weapons. Scrambler and combat rifles, both are good at range and their assaults are versatile. Amarr= firepower and HP (scrambler rifle has damage and range) Minmatarr= mobility and strafing (combat rifle has decent range and its anti armor)
I honestly dont see the point of having caldari and gal. assaults. Their weapons are lackluster and the suits are meh. Gal. assault= rather crap bonus from skills and the AR has not a really good range Cal. assault= reload speed is nice though you get insta killed by scramblers. Rails are crap and good for nothing.

Why would you restrict yourself just for the Assault (plasma) rifle?
The bonus is rather mild so you lose pretty much nothing having better / more situational weapons.
Everyone should have several fits tailored for different tactical situations.

Sadly there aren't any rail based weaponry that's Gallente in this game yet... (Not talking about repurposed weapons like the Allotek Forge Gun or Roden Sniper)
So...if you want to bend things a bit you could say that you trained your soldier to use familiar enemy weaponry. Because, what trained soldier wouldn't know how to use the most common weapon of their enemy?

In situtions like this, its best to stay slightly away from the objective, and let them come to you. Let them hack, if possible, as they will be distracted letting you get close. if you cannot get close, place a remote on the objective. You could switch to a different suit, or just stick to objectives that best suit your play style.

Easy enough solutions:
Equip a Tactical AR and get stupid good with it. Equip an Assault Rail Rifle and a Complex Damage Mod. You get the same DPS as the AR just with a reversed damage profile but with +30m of range.
It is the same old problem: You can add DPS to a ranged weapon but you can't add range to a DPS weapon. Rattati has made it very clear that there will never be any way for us to circumvent the range problem so you might as well just give up and go with a higher ranged rifle and use the high-slots to fill in your DPS gap (what else are you going to do? Add shield modules?)

Since gal is like Amarr but with less pg, use :
Kincats, ferroscales, reps. Whatever you want for highs.
If you're into gal lore, use tac ar. More dmg&range than regular one.
Or pick regular (breach, normal, burst) with bolt pistol. It has better range than AR. Funny, isn't it?

It is hilarious, actually. Range = options. CQC = specified role that isn't even usually good at what it does.

What I find funny, though, is how the Tac seems to excel at close quarters combat. A simple strafe whilst hip-firing works really well for taking out mildly tanked out suits--if the shots land that is. Fighting at range, however, is still a problem for me as I just can't figure out the distances of when I should properly engage an RR or ScR user. |
