When I first started visiting the forums, one of the most vocalized complaints that the community agreed on was their dislike for the abuse of active scanners.
Everyone hated having the line 'You have been scanned' burned onto their displays.
Well, now the scanner abuse has returned yet the community seems more divided on the subject.
So what has changed? Is the community scarred from past meta? Is it better playing with the majority of players visible at 200m through walls?
What do you think? |

I still wish for a game mode or socket impervious to scans. I'd go the way of a jamming equipment. Just use nanohives assets to create an aoe where scan profiles in a 10m/12.5m/15m area are reduced by 6dB/10dB/14dB for basic/ADV/PRO and only the highest one applies.

I think people are more split because the active scanners are substantially nerfed compared to when they first were "abused". I remember you could simply spin in a circle and scan the whole map.
However there needs to be some hard counter other than dampeners. Because frankly it's bs that a single equipment slot has so much power. I'm thinking a deployable tacnet jammer would be amazing. Any enemy within the range of the jammer would have their tacnet go offline. Anything other than 1 player forcing the entire enemy team to fit two proto dampeners. That's ******* stupid. |

I mostly just get blown up though.
I am waiting for the inb4 use dampeners trolls that clearly have no idea what they are talking about
I think based on all the nerfs to scouts and cloaks they could safely move scans back to squad and everything will be just dandy |

I think eliminating the cool down, and making them be held like rep tools to work would be a big help in scanner spam. No more gallogis with 4 slots full of scanners. You want to permascan, you sacrifice a gun.
I am also not a fan of the current way that ewar works in general. I think there needs to be a chance to scan, say 40% base and lowering the db made that chance lower. Gallogis would get a bonus to that percent, say 70% at max. So a maxed out scout would have like a 50% chance of going undetected by a gallogi. Even a heavy would have say a 20-30% chance of going undetected.
Now granted, I pulled these numbers out of my @ss, but it seems better than the current all or nothing approach.

I agree with this guy. If I get the warning I adjust what I'm doing accordingly. OR I keep doing what I'm doing without any illusion of being unnoticed as I do it. What I don't do is expect to be in a far-future gamescape that doesn't utilize at the very least current day technology.

While I like the idea, I think it will be difficult to implement and adds an extra complex layer to a already complex system.
I would prefer if the active scanner (when activated) raises the scan profile of the player using the scanner. So, you might see everybody else, but you just painted a huge bullseye on your back . Risk and reward and all that.
Edit: ^ This would also mean you would have to be more careful when and where to scan, to not blow your own squad position. The gameplay will become way more tactical, as there will be cases when you care more about your own position rather than the enemy. |

Yes this can be can be a good tactic for a high Hp slayer role, especially when the opposing team is likely scanned as well.
But, what about support roles? and what happens to tactical equipment use? Vehicle VS AV? Breaking the redline?
The entire flow of matches are different when teams are lit up across the map. Maybe for the better?
I have no problem slaying in any meta the game throws at me. And Gal scout was my first of 6 proto suits, so if i dont want to be scanned, I sure as hell wont be.
My support roles, on the other hand, are having a harder time contributing.

Yes, all cores maxed long ago. This is only really affective with scouts though (2 complex damps). All other suits on the field will have to sacrifice multiple slots to counter that logi's 1 piece of equipment. |

What do you think?
Scouts used their passive scan advantage to a devastating effect. That's what most of the scan opponents are leaving out. It was okay for them if you passive scan and have a 10 meter radar advantage and the enemy could not pick you up at all. That was considered fair.
Over time more and more people specced into gal logi to counter the scouts. As scouts lost their superiority more people specced into assaults. Assaults can't even ewar. Don't need proto scans to pick up the enemy anymore, scans became more popular.
To add to all of this, turns out the best counter to the enemy pubs stomping and devastate people using scans is to scan them right back.
If you want to kill active scanning fine. But then toss that passive scanning out too.
Redline for Thee, but no Redline for Me.
