I love this game, but I hope they wait to advertise until UX is in better shape.
I'm envisioning a future Dust with low-security, post-academy cooperative contracts focused on clearing areas of drones. A future Dust with a solo playmode where casuals can fight against other casuals to grind out Isk and SP. A future Dust where highly competitive, large squads favor competitive contracts over stomping pubs. A future Dust where established corps would seek out and recruit new players with promise.
I love this game, and I think it has enormous potential; more potential than any shooter I've ever played. But I don't believe that this game in its present state is capable of retaining players. In my opinion, money spent on advertising at this stage would be money wasted. There's still too much work to do.

Grease Spillett wrote:It is highly opinionated that they would stay. I believe that the role playing casual shooting types would stay. Why would a newbro stay today? I arrived in Chromosome; I stayed because:
* Newbros could actually outplay and kill vets in Chromosome * Stomps and lopsided fights happened, but they were a rarity and far less severe than today's * There was no such thing as a PC-rich class who could afford to protostomp all day, every day * By my 3rd week of play, I'd received recruitment invitations by 3+ different corps. * My corpmates demonstrated a sincere interest in my development path as a new player
When I arrived, Dust was a different game than it is today. If I had arrived today, I wouldn't haven't lasted two weeks. No new player in his right mind wants to be fodder and entertainment for an elite class who he will never catch up to, who he will never be as rich as, and who want absolutely nothing to do with him apart from farming him day in and day out.

Grease Spillett wrote:When I joined dust I got killed to dual core flay locks and contact core locus grenades. The game was just released. It's better than its ever been. Ever. The game is far better now that it was at any point during Uprising, and it's getting better with each and every update. But I believe there's still critical work to be done on the NPE front, and I believe that work should be done before we attempt to lure new players.

Put a Jet or a Drone in that ad, and see all the vets who've come and gone come running back to check it out :-)
