See. I personally agree with pretty much everything you have said here overall, though I might disagree on some details, and I would be ecstatic to see these improvements in DUST. The very basics, actual game performance and balancing are crucial, and the fact that particularly the former is still in an awful state is a disgrace. What you said about NPE, it needing to be fixed 3 years ago, is spot on, but that also applies to many of the other points you bring up. Now, if only we had time travel...
Better NPE and thoughtful balancing are something that can be worked on, and
should be worked on more. I know current CPM members have already worked on both, but there is always more to be done. And Rattati has been working on performance and client stability probably as much as he can. All the small changes (avatars in channels, deleting mail etc) might not do much on their own, but they should add up. The powercore model he is working on will also potentially improve performance, same as eventually getting rid of many the unique suits by "skinning" them.
However. The fact is that a lot of the things mentioned here are pretty much beyond any possibility for Dust on PS3 and the current resources CCP has allotted to its development. Dynamic EWAR/stealth system? Would be absolutely brilliant, and Rattati has already stated before that they are unable to do it. The 3-ring system we have now was the closest they could come to a non-binary EWAR. An actual, meaningful link with EVE? Yes, absolutely, except that is wholly dependant on the EVE side devs, who apparently pretty much want nothing to do with DUST anymore... Larger team sizes and more "epic" battles, which would actually make specialist roles meaningful and viable? Thing of wet dreams, and not something I believe CCP can do PS3. (No, it's not the PS3 itself, I know MAG had larger battles, it's
CCP in conjunction with the PS3
).
Yes, a port is needed. And I selfishly would prefer it be a PS4 port, simply because I am more of a console gamer, and also because I really do feel that CCP abandoning the console community after this many years would be a slap in the face. But really, for DUST to be improved more than marginally, it can't stay on the PS3 for much longer.
Will CPM2 have any ability to influence that, or even have a chance to give an opinion on it? Or advice on the potential development of a port? We can't know. But the fact is that while a CPM member can have an opinion on all of these things, and will have better avenues for voicing them directly to the devs, they can't actually dictate anything to CCP. They can't make CCP add a feature or remove a broken asset or balance things in a certain way. They can voice their concerns, they can convey community opinions, they can point the devs in a direction of a bug they were unaware of, but they can't actually fix that bug themselves. A CPM member really can't promise anything more than that they will do their best to get CCP to listen to them on issues important to the community. Well, they
can promise all sorts of things, but I'd give those sorts of claims as much credence as a politician promising word peace, 0% unemployment and free ice cream for everyone if they get elected.
