I think that the way the skills work now makes it feel like a grind.
Remember that most people who play this game will not have ever played Eve and wont necessarily realize that they are accumulating SP's all the time. Also, the inability to select a skill to train and let it go makes it feel like I have to save up SP, and the more I grind the faster Ill get it.
I do not suggest changing the way it actually works, just the way it FEELS.
My suggestion: Allow us to queue up skills to train, while a skill is queued, all SPs earned go toward that skill. If no skill is queued then they go into the bank and can be allocated as usual.
This way we can queue skills we want and then feel like we are progressing like we do in EVE without feeling like we are grinding for SP's to get the next best weapon.

Okay, I hate to say that I think your logic is flawed.
For starters, in Eve, you do not progress at all until the skill is finished training. Not only that, but the SPs in Eve that you earn over time aren't liquid. Dust is no different, despite how you feel.
At least in Dust, the SP you earn over time can be put anywhere you want. How would you manage skill queues when players go inactive for a period of time? Would they just stop earning SP?
I like the way it is now, I can put SP wherever I want as my mood changes. I don't necessarily have to commit to a certain skill for a month, get half-way through it and then realize that there was something else that I needed more immediately and have to start all over again.

As I said in my original post:
If you put a skill in the queue, all SP's earned would go to it.
If you have no skill in the queue, then they accrue as they do now, and you allot them when you want and how you want.
So if you want to play all night earning SPs to get the next skill level and it doesn't make you feel like its a grind, then you can do it that way.
I would rather put a skill in the queue and not feel like I am grinding for XP.
I realize that the systems work very similarly already.
What I am asking for is the ability to set a goal, and then forget it till its done and just focus on enjoying the game.
The requirement to spend skill points toward skills means that after every few matches, I feel like I need to check, whats my SP balance, and how much further do I need to go? Am I there yet? It keeps it in my head and I would rather just focus on playing the game than grinding.
And in Eve you DO progress. If you change training a skill in the middle, it keeps what it earned and you can finish it later.
Progress is no different in this game since you can't use shiny new gun until you buy the skill with SP's.
So, in summary: Grind is Bad. Queue is good.
Having a queue that doesn't HAVE to have a skill in it to be earning SP's allows for you and I to coexist in harmony...between battles where we shoot each other in the face. |

Seems pointless. Just putting a shiny wrapper on a feature that already works. The ability to make 'training plans' might be nice but there is no reason for automatic allotment of SP. Too often when I gain up a nice ppol of SP I change my mind on what I want to train. If my SP is getting spent automatically while I'm saving it up, I have less to spend if I change my mind and want to get a more exspensive skill. |

You get SP over time. You can watch this go up slowly on the skill window...So how isn't it different than eve? you are just rewarded MORE SP for active participation.

It's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. The same number of skills get accumulated over the same period of time and spent on the same skill. The difference is the feeling of sitting there waiting for a bar to fill up VS instant gratification of purchasing it. For the FPS, I think they made the right choice. The average public isn't going to have patience for a bar to slowly fill up. |

so the option would be either to just store the points and put them into something else, or pick a skill and choose an option, say "funnel all SP into ____"
hmmm.... Yeah, not a bad idea. The way it works now is pretty cool, instead of just sitting around and waiting for your skill they make you go out and earn it, but the idea to be able to take the SP you're earning and funnel it into a skill isn't a bad idea. i find it a bit odd that all this SP is just sitting there saying "you have NO idea what you're going to use me for do you?" and my answer every time is no, not a clue. |

It does feel like a grind to me as well. Mainly because of the sheer number of skills that are available for training and the limited amount of sp I get per round it feels like I am never fully reaching my goal. However with my recent loadout changes I am getting a bit more sp. And I will probably stockpile them for awhile. |

as a non-Eve player the skill tree thing is kinda confusing.
there should either be tutorials for all the aspects - controls, spawning, gunplay, game types, outfitting, skill tree, etc. -
or at least pre-made skill templates for newbies to follow sort of like a list of classes you need to take to graduate.
assault template, sniper template, heavy template, logistics template, etc.
you could still customize but at least you have some idea of what skill paths you need to put SP into.

It will have tutorials, but not in this beta. |

From what I remember from previous statements of CCP there should be an active skilling system, so that for example when you're using weapon X it you should get points towards skills that have something to do with this skill (like say faster reload times for AR). But maybe I've got something wrong or they changed plans after FF. |
