Hello, I adore Dust 514 but Ps2 I hear is similar. How do they compare to each other?

Outside of being shooters, they really aren't that comperable.
Specifically considering they run on very different systems.
I find more purpose in Dust when I do play personally.
PS2 feels very casual to me.

Any double entendre is unintended I assure you.

:In loving memory of planetside2 and dust514 bombers: Unknown - 20XX I am on PS2 Beta and it is not, extremely open maps. There can be three factions at battle at one time. Your allies are tagged, enemies are not. You can run by each other and not notice. Firefights can be you only at a base defending against 12+ from each of the other two factions. Roles are not as varied, a heavy can not carry a sniper rifle, guns are specific to suit. medics are the only one to do revive downed allies. You can jump deploy from battle to battle to push a win or reenforce a loosing fight. I have never played Battlefield, Halo or COD, but I here it is a cross between them. Dust you have advantages to exploit in the way you outfit your suit and weapons to maximize your role, not as much in PS2. It is a fun game and I might get it, but Dust will be played far more than PS2.

I played the PC version a lot.
If you want to play at being in an army, it's right up your alley. My corp in the game had quite a few service members.
It's not terribly dissimilar from DUST, but this game is much more about individuals than Planetside which is why I'm here instead of there. |

Played PS2 both on PC and PS4 beta, but it never hooked me as Dust did.
Unless you play in a large coordinated group, your part in the battle might seem very insignificant. As others have pointed out you are more restricted in your role, but it DOES allow you some customisation (Not even near the level of Dust though.)
There are a few continents (including a starter-continent on the PS4) where all the battles takes place. You can technically walk from one end to the other and ass around if you like, as there are no "matches" like in Dust. Although, a battle plays out quite similar, I.e capture nodes for a specific time to capture it. You can only do this in the border regions though, so you can't go deep into enemy territory and capture their home base.
Since there is no matchmaking or player count limit to speak of the battles can vary quite a bit. While it's possible to get massive battles with several hundred players, they are quite rare in my book. They also tend to be quite disorganised if they do happen. The polar opposite is also a possible, where there are hardly no enemies at all. I have been sitting waiting for several minutes for the base to swap (after capturing all objectives by myself), simply because nobody else were there...
And the graphics are too "plastic" for my taste, which breaks my immersion (personal opinion). Speaking what you will about Dust graphics, but it's WAY more "realistic gritty" than PS2 (by a longshot).
But don't take my word for it...try it out yourself. It have some positive things over Dust, but the opposite could be said as well.
