Hello I'm new in the forums.
I was wondering, is it good to fit my Caldari Sentinel with a shotgun?, Because I usually like charging in enemy lines so I can deal massive damage and absorb massive damage as well. |

With the way sheilds are,and kids with scrambler rifles and turbo controllers you might wanna stay back and use a rail rifle or something

I know that, it's quite painful but I use the shotgun often, very, very often, it's good on one on one, but I guess I'll stick to using a combat rifle.
Thanks! |

Yup. If anything,if you have good internet and a not crappy ps3 you could make a living shotgunning in a scout suit. Just beware of dying a lot if you don't get the dampening akills to level five.

The shotguns range is too short and the sentinel is too slow, a HMG is like a longer range, higher damage shotgun (particularly the burst variants which hit >1000 dps)

Nonononononono The only heavy frame that might be able to run a shotgun is a gallente commando, and that's still a stretch.
Shotguns are for scouts and assaults; and even then, I would only suggest them on a gallente assault.

I suggest you get the commando. Back in 1.7 I ran RR and Shotty with the OP Scanners. Use the RR as your main and treat the Shotty as your secondary. Heavy coming around the corner? Blap him! Scout got you from behind? Turn around and give him his medicine! Low on health? Hide in the corner with your surprise!
The trick is to play defensively with it, let them come to you. Only use it aggressively when facing other heavies or when in crammed spots. Paired with the RR you'll be deadly in both ranges with little weaknesses. The Active Scanner will help you find enemies easier since as a heavy you're naturally blind.

Yep this guy has got it. The Shotgun on the commando can be useful at times, and it'll be more useful once the Commandos get their proposed speed and slot buffs. Technically you'll get the most base damage output if you use it on the Gallente Commando, but the Minmatar Commando can also make it work since it's a bit faster than the Gallente.
Additionally the Commando gives you two light weapons, which allows you to have a long range weapon as well (The Minmatar Commando will get a damage bonus for your Combat Rifle).
If you really want to try something that behaves like a shotgun but works well on the Sentinel. Try a Burst Heavy Machine Gun. It fires in short bursts that hit like a truck, and is probably the closest thing we have to a Heavy Shotgun.

Caldari Sentinel's don't charge very well. They lumber along at a very slow speed, and then have to stop to catch their breath every 20 steps or so.
Other Sentinels have more Stamina.
The Minmitar Sentinel is faster.
All other Sentinels have more low slots in which they can place Kinetic Catalyzers in order to charger faster.
The Caldari Sentinel is not a bad suit, but it is probably the worst suit in the game for "Charging". It is not so much a "Charge" as a "Lumbering Waddle".
If you are into dealing massive damage with a Sentinel I would recommend the Burst HMG over the Shotgun. Sentinels often refer to Burst HMG fits as Heavy Shotgun fits, due to the tactical similarities of the two weapons. However, to avoid overheat you need to get good at switching to your sidearm after 3 Burst to let the Burst HMG cool down before switching back.
For more information on how to play a Sentinel effectively, check out The Bastion.
