Why don't CCP made one & get rid of those mimics (breach, burst, tactical)? Regular variant can have mechanics similar to laser rifle, damage will grow with overheating (longer you shoot - more damage you deal), looks legit & fits gallente style - cqc & dps. Your initial logic is flawed.

Reducing scheme to racial regular + assault will make it easier. Just by replacing gallentes miminc with one regular. They were just never removed when the rail, scrambler, and combat were introduced addicted to the Kubo's GMK-16 banana cannon

If they were "placeholders" then they were awaiting new ideas, concepts and weapons to be introduced.

That's why if you've noticed all the 1st generation weapons have a lot more variants than 2nd and 3rd generations. HMGs, Forges, SMG, AR, Scrambler, etc all have more variants to give more diversity and a ballpark feel for what the other weapons will feel like. Example, I remember when the Scrambler Rifle came out. It was the second rifle to come out in this game and CCP specifically stated that it was what the TAC AR is with the Scrambler is supposed to be, or something in that territory. Pretty much he said the TAC AR is Gallente's take on a mid-range higher alpha weapon. 2nd Generation weapons at most have 2 variants save for one while 3rd generation weapons like Bolt Pistol, Ions, magsecs are stuck with just one variant. TUNNEL SNAKES RULE!

Caldari has the assault rail rifle, which mimics the gallente assault rifle. Amarr has the assault scrambler rifle, which mimics the gallente assault rifle. Just because CCP is lazy doesnt mean this doesnt make sense
