EWAR in dust is pretty flat. You have a constant profile number which determines either a pass or fail when you are scanned. I think much more depth could be added to be EWAR and stealth game play with Dynamic Scan Profiles
I propose various in-game actions have either a positive or negative effect on your Scan Profile
Examples, using a base scan profile of 30
Holding Still: -5% 30db>28db
Crouching: -5%
Holding still + crouching: -10% 30db>27db
Moving slowly: 0% (No change)
Running: +5% 30db>32db
Sprinting: +10% 30db>33db
Firing sidearm: +5%
Firing Light weapon: +10%
Firing heavy weapon: +25% 30db>38db
Using a scanner: +15% 30db>35db (Scanning gives off a large signature, revealing the scanner)
The idea is that this would add some actual stealth play, as well as adding a few balanced variables to scanning.
!--CCP, let's push for the license of Dust on both current Gen consoles--!

Ratatti has said before the server and infrastructure dust uses can't handle dynamic.
That's why we have concentric/binary ewar. :/
Sometimes I THINK you're r-tarded, most times I KNOW you're r-tarded. I less than three you DUST forums.

Since the server can only use static values, it would be easy to implement a sig profile for every item in game. Heavy weapon +2 plates + 1/2/3; ferroscale 1/0/0. Stuff like that.

Being behind a wall or terrain: (line of sight penalty): -5%
The idea is that this would add some actual stealth play, as well as adding a few balanced variables to scanning.
I always think there needs to be more depth to scanning, a scanning gradient (instead of the current 3 rings) would also be nice. CCP will probably not be able to implement any of this stuff though. |

But what we -can- have is a variant of the cloaking device that reduces profile considerably while not having a visual cloaking effect, essentially making an active 'Profile Dampener' equipment as a counter to Active Scanners.

This would be great, when moved to a new platform.
As it is, they are already trying to reduce the amount of memory being used, and this looks like it would be a lot added to the dynamic.
I am all about making EWAR more dynamic and relevant, but I think with the constraints of Dust, something like this really isn't feasible right now.

Thanks.
Most people agree with the premise here, but bring up valid concerns of whether the game can handle it (Get on my level Dust!)
Still, there are many ways we could improvise and still make EWAR more dynamic without putting strain on the server.

Performance is an issue, unfortunately. But I agree. Jebus proposed adding a secondary benefit to profile dampeners sometime back. Reduce scan duration when active scanned by X%. The idea was to encourage use among non-scout units, which at the moment stand to benefit very little (if any) from running a damp.
There have been quite a few suggestions on changes to Active Scan mechanics as well, from active use (like reppers) with cooldown, to snapshots which paint static "blips" at the scanned unit's position (as opposed to painting the unit itself). Lots of interesting ideas out there.

Yo what if we had profile damps reduce the amount of time you are scanned in addition to its current effect? So like 1 plex damp alone might not make you stealthy but it could reduce the time you are light up on the enemies scans.
That way you can get use out of every module even if you dont wish to fully commit to ewar.

I've thought about this too, and I think it's a great idea.
Rattati made a post about how they wanted to have different blip sizes on radar IE: A large blip for a heavy, and a tiny speck for a scout.
Combining these would be the best case: The tiny blip would only linger a second or two, where the big heavy blot would linger on your radar.
This then finally introduces partial scanning. IE: If you run damps on a heavy, you might give off the signature of a medium or light frame, rather than the flat PASS/FAIL system.
