Depends aim assist on or not? I think many mercs rely heavily on the whole spray and pray mechanic on close up fights, where you stand less of a chance at a distance, varies by the weapon of choice.

Not as good as Halo, way more responsive than Call of DukeBuddies. Can't compare to Battlefront II though, Star Wars had that **** down on point, best **** ever. So, DUSTs aiming is in the middle. Hit detection and TTK is another story....

Dust's aiming is really bad. Sure you can get used to it, but then you play other FPS's and the realisation hits once more. |

Feels like it was made for the mouse and keyboard, you need to be far too accurate for it to have been intentionally intended for the ds3 controller.

The aiming is pretty good actually due to the not very strong aim assist, problem is the low frame rate which messes up your aiming. |

C: Terrible. Controller:Not enough sensitivity adjustments. High ingame movement speeds make it difficult to track. No custom mapping. M/Kb:Worst implementation ever. Either it moves waay to little or it just flies off. Sensitivity options are screwed ingame, mouse smoothing is waay too limiting. Kb doesnt have custom remaps. No way to get raw input, messes with muscle memory. PSMove: $$$$$$$#&@@$%&%%#@##$. Might as well be removed, saving us the 3-5 seconds at startup.

C) Pretty frakkin' far from alright.
Without aim assist Dust has terrible and abrupt low-deflection sensitivity, this is why right-stick aiming is so important in Dust. Weapon handling and tracking is off also - there's a great set of videos out there somewhere in which a dedicated player went to great lengths to demonstrate exactly what the issues were to the Devs. Iirc the thread was noticed but nothing ever came of it.
With aim assist we get exploitation of the mechanic by kb/m emulators and everybody makes shots that they shouldn't. The aim assist in Dust is not so much to balance controllers vs kb/m but to cover up CCP's aiming controls and hit detection.
As far as the lag argument goes, increasing game performance always makes any game feel better, of course Dust would benefit from increased framerate. But the low-deflection sensitivity behaves the same in high-lag and low-lag situations and the behavior of the POV while moving is also a code-based problem, so framerate can only fix so much in this game. The rest is on the devs.

Talking about aiming mechanism alone, not hit detection.
C) Other
Needs max value of X Y sensitivity increase. Aiming is sluggish during a firefight. Is this by design? Changing between aiming states takes too long. Changing between aiming states can cause unexpected offsets to current target (especially if turning). Aiming and ADS while traveling over uneven terrain is atrocious (again offsets). WHERE SHOULD I AIM? Sometimes sight is not directly in the center of the screen (due to offset). Should I use the sight or the center of the screen at that point? |

C. Other.
(Sh*t)
I just got a new Roccat mouse n keyboard, nothing too fancy but its a lot better than what I had before. 1k hertz polling rate, 2000 dpi (as opposed to my old mouse that was less than 1000dpi).....
Long story short my new KB/M is really nice on PC, been having sweet battles in Battlefield 4. It felt even better than my old one that's for sure. However for some strange strange reason... even though my new mouse has double the dpi and a higher polling rate, even at max settings and MAX sensitivity settings it is MUCH slower in DUST than my old mouse.
Aiming now is like a mouse drag marathon just to turn 180 deg.
No wonder most KB/M players stopped using KB/M a long time ago..... FML

Compared to? It is bad/good compared to other games.
Compared to PC shooters (low TTK, aiming means everything) it's not as good.
Compared to other console shooters (higher TTK) it's decent. Hit detection is wonky, recoil/kick is not noticeable. You should know what i mean.
Ps. Give examples next time. Cuz it's like saying : this apple is delicious! Without knowing how other apples taste.

Its to twitchy and sensitive at the middle of the stick and to slow at the the edge. Also the transition in sensitivity from the middle to the outside of the stick is not smooth enough.
A game with great twin stick aiming mechanics is bad company 2, playing that and then coming back to dust its night and day.
I don't see why the aiming mechanics cant be looked at again by rattati. |

Probably because : a) they don't want to (lazy) b) they would mess it up even more

You just have to get used to it. Like any game.
I thought battlefield 3 was clunky and weird when I got used to it.
