So CCP is all up in Iceland right?
Our in game currency, ISK? Is also the abbreviation for Icelandic currency... the Icelandic Krona, a.k.a, ISK
I feel like they're a lot less creative now D: |

Because just like in real life, as time goes on, spelling and pronunciation of words change. Words we use all the time fade out, words we've never heard of pop up, and sometimes a language you speak fluently now will be completely unrecognizable some centuries down the road. I guarantee you would not be able to understand a bit of Old English. Don't complain just because they spelt credit with a 'k' and you think ti's dumb.
Speaking of words changing over time, spelt used to be the proper spelling. It is now 'spelled'. |

You got a lot of free time on your hands huh?
I'm just purposing they were lazy and used their own currency abbreviation in their game.
Does that notion offend you some how? Or do you just wanna be "right" in this conversation? o.O |

It's entirely possible.
No, but it always irritates me when people complain about words they're familiar with being spelled differently than they're used to in a fantasy setting. |

I just tend to favor the notion that they did it because they were obviously familiar with "ISK", I mean, aside from the names of the races and things pertaining to new inventions in the EVE world, are there any other words that have evolved?
I wouldn't make much sense for just one word to be singled out, for the favor of the game worlds futuristic setting.
Now if you can come up with like 10+ words like that I might see where your coming from. Words like credit now being spelled with a K I mean, not some fancy name for a thrust module on one of their ships. |

Words like credit now being spelled with a K I mean, not some fancy name for a thrust module on one of their ships. At no point did I ever say they were being inventive with their use of ISK for their acronym, or that changing the spelling of credit to kredit was original. I agree that changing a single letter of a single word out of their entire vocabulary is lazy and silly. Just that words evolve, so pointing out a word that's spelt differently than normal is such a tiny point to contest. It's entirely possible they based ISK off their Icelandic currency. But what if they had used ISC, instead? You'd have drawn the same conclusion, right? It's just the abbreviation for the Icelandic currency, but using a C instead of a K. The exact same scenario we're having now, but flopped. Instead of credits/kredits it'd be ISK/ISC. And you'd still be wondering why they were lazy and didn't go for something more original. Hell, maybe they even decided to use ISK as a kind of homage to Iceland.
If I actually wanted to try defending the change of credits but the similarity of everything else I could pull all kinds of bullshit out of my ass, like how everything would be in vastly different languages and so this is just how things are 'translated' for us. Or that the term kredit is used instead of credit to differentiate itself for some reason, possibly because there are actual 'credits' that are used for other things. Or even that whoever discovered or produced this interstellar currency had it named after them, and their name happened to be Kredit.
The reason they're called Kredits could even be covered in the lore for all I know. But damn if I'm going to go through all that just for this single conversation. |
