I think dust desperately needs videos instead of walls of text for newcomers. The Eve crowd is used to reading tons (im one of them) but ps3 junkies will want a video to get them going as quickly as possible. You've put a lot into this game, lets give the ps3 folks a good first impression |

+1
Explain how spawn points work, or that you can actually choose a spawn point. Explain basic fitting and market Explain game objectives between the two play types. Explain how to actually defend / attack and what is going on.

Anybody that has played the Battlefield series will understand most of that. Fitting and the market could use some guidance, though. Maybe CCP should host some sort of ingame version of Battleclinic for DUST. |

Fitting will become easier once we get to link fits in text-chat like in EVE. As for tutorials, i want a New Eden twist. I feel a holodeck-like simulation is in order. Weapons would be hologrammed in, protecting the sim unit from damage and your wallet from first-time stupidity. |

as a Non-Eve Battlefield player I could figure out some of the basics but I really think Tutorials are a MUST, not an option.
Skill tree is definitely Different concept for BF and COD players.
MMO players would know about skill trees but BF and COD players will not.
Dropsuit fitting is sort of like configuring your weapon loadouts but you have to explain slots, CPU and PG budgets.
How market item and skill requirements interact are still a mystery.
BF players will know about vehicles but COD players will not.
all the EVE corporation, contracts, permanence, backstabbing, etc will defnitely need explaining.
doesn't even have to be interactive tutorials, just some video clips explaining all this stuff that you can access either in-game or on a website will do.

Oh not to worry. They have that part figured out already. |

I changed my mind already on just having video tutorials.
the Gunplay and hacking/repairing stuff should definitely have an Interactive tutorial.
If anybody has played Brink - they actually used guided game missions as tutorials.
Driving vehicles should also be interactive - maybe a vehicles-only map where you get to pilot different vehicles and bash it out against other pilots and gunners.

A vehicle only map would be interesting. I agree, tutorial videos or 'demos' are a must. I love reading, I go through a novel every 1-2 weeks, but not everyone is like me. Either they'll skip the wall of text and think they can just get it all on the fly, they'll read it and understand the basics of it, or they'll read it and still not understand much from it. |
