Even though this thread was obvious with the first post, I guess I'll continue the trend and say PS4.
Dust 514 was billed back in 2009 as being designed to bring console gamers into New Eden, and leaving them behind to try and appeal to PC gamers would be counter to everything the game stood for.
I don't think I'm too self-entitled to believe that we've earned our place in New Eden.
Indianna Pwns wrote:If they're simply going to port Dust 514 to the PS4/PC I'll be extremely disappointed. I'd rather Dust 514 in it's current iteration stay on the PS3.
I want legion to happen (on PC or PS4 I'm not to fussed). A move to a new platform is the perfect opportunity to rebuild the game from the ground up and finally fulfill CCP's original vision of what Dust 514 should have been. Legion wasn't rebuilding the game from the ground up.
If you watch those FanFest uploads and listen to people who went to the Round Tables, EVE: Legion was the current game with a graphical coat of polish still running on the same buggy platform of Unreal Engine 3 piled under all the extra code they added on over time.
It was literally all the same problems we have right now swept under a pretty looking sheet with a different name on the box.

Then we get both players and cross platform play And a game which will have the same problems it has now in a few years like being dependent on Sony support to check patches. No. Cross platform play would hurt that game so much. Having discussed the issue with both PC and Console users, the control issue would also be nearly insurmountable.
Decelerated controls for mice like we have in Dust right now would be an instant turnoff for the PC community as much raw mouse input would be an instant turnoff for the Console community.
Add negative public opinion of aim-assist into the mix, and you'd have a game that would alienate most of the people you want to play it. As much as cross-play sounds like an easy fix, there's a reason no other shooter has it.

With a game like Dust you'd rapidly get motion sickness because your body can't move that way and there's not enough physical frame of reference to offset that. In the case of EVE: Valkyrie, the cockpit of your figther provides an anchor point for your perspective in order to counter motion-sickness.

Put in a HUD (opacity and amount of detail configurable) and use the suit as you would a ship cockpit? I'm not sure that's enough. You need to understand that having your character going 6+ m/s in one direction and then switching back to the other direction almost without slowing down would rapidly have you feeling like you were going to vomit.
As well, the minimum price point of that tech is likely to be 150 USD. Putting the game behind a further paywall or just putting in support for a device that gives players with it the unfair advantage of looking in other directions while still keeping their aim forward is not a good way to bring in more customers.

Good point. Not sure there are many new folks coming in on the PS3 now though. Which is also true, and your suggestion was aimed in a good direction. Providing a fresh new experience is a good way to bring in new customers.
VR just isn't the best way to execute on that. HOWEVER, the sense of first-person immersion that the Valkyrie experience is designed around could easily be applied to Dust even without a VR headset.
As an example, here is a video of an FPS build from the recent Star Citizen asset leak.
As you can see, it does quite a good job of making you feel like you're inside the helmet. I think if CCP Shanghai cooperated with CCP Newcastle and swapped some ideas they could come up with a first-person interface that's as immersive as what I linked.

ZED Regent wrote:^ this.... although i prefer ps4, but then again, can one have too many consoles? edit: damm typos.... We've been over this before. Microsoft turned CCP down on Dust apparently, and neither company will support a game that requires open cross-play with their competitor. That's just not good business.
Whatever platform Dust moves to, it will have to be ONLY that platform.

From what I have heard CCP has already tried to push Sony to port Dust 514 to PS4 already. However Sony denied it under the grounds that it had "Too many bugs." So to port Dust 514 to PS4 it would have to be spotless in term of bugs, and with every new major update, there is always new bugs. Heck, there's new bugs from the updates that are supposed to fix the existing bugs.

I really hope CCP is going to present the Plan B soon. The CEO of CCP is in Shanghai right now. I wonder if that is a sign of some movement. I certainly hope that's a good sign.
It had certainly better not be leading to the announcement of Dust 514 exclusive to PC and a shutdown date for the PS3 version. Hopefully they learned from the last time they did that.

Maybe they like to see their players support PC/next gen.. Last time I made a thread like this 90% were saying to keep on PS3 cuz they didn't feel like buying a ps4 or PC they'd rather let the game die..those players either moved on or have next gen now so the results are different this time around...they've done what they could with PS3 now it's time to see what possibilities next gen/PC holds for this game. PS3 was a good testing now time for the real deal I agree, but I personally oppose any move away from the PSN. Moving up to the new console has always been a reality of console gaming, and PS3 owners will do so when there is enough incentive for them.
Moving it completely off the PSN, or worse yet halting development on PSN to build a PC game with less freedom and no link to EVE Online is something I think many of us can agree would be a bad move.

The focus needs to be on a platform upgrade that doesn't discard the current community.

Maybe they got their **** together now, since according to my knowledge, CCP did not lay off 90% of the Shanghai office, the people working in CCP Shanghai except for the small team updating Dust 514 must be doing something on their payroll. Where is CCP Rouge by the way? A friend of mine pointed out that that mobile game they talked about at FanFest is being made there as well.
Probably want to keep a realistic outlook.

Posting in this tread would be construed as confirmation of a platform migration, and that would inevitably devolve into backbiting between the people who want the game to stay on PSN and the people who want to move to PC-only.
You won't see any blue tags in any thread like this until CCP upper management has an ironclad plan set up for what happens next.

How easy would it be to port to the PS4? Am i correct in thinking it would be easier than xbox or pc? The PS4 runs on the same x86 architecture as PCs do, unlike the super-complex CELL the PS3 runs on.
The question is primarily market-based, I would imagine.

All these games coming out will be nice, but Dust has always been a game that can hold your attention, or at least let you come back after you're bored with your new one, and see what's up. I've made hundreds of friends from this game, and reconnecting a lot of the veterans on PS4 would be awesome.
Yes, Id pay for this game Yes, I'd subscribe monthly Yes, I'd buy a PC, but not both PC and PS4
Amen.... That's the primary reason I wouldn't want it to move to PC. I have a PC, and I could play it if I went there, but maybe half of all the cool people I've met playing this game would make that move as well.
I want to see this game succeed, but not at the cost of leaving so many people behind.

While I agree that this game should be open for casual gamers, I don't think they should be the priority for the playerbase Agreed.

It's gonna be like the colts getting sold to Indianapolis they will cut and run. I doubt everyone would instantly stop buying anything if the game was announced to have a future. That wouldn't make much sense.
