From what I have heard CCP has already tried to push Sony to port Dust 514 to PS4 already. However Sony denied it under the grounds that it had "Too many bugs." So to port Dust 514 to PS4 it would have to be spotless in term of bugs, and with every new major update, there is always new bugs. Heck, there's new bugs from the updates that are supposed to fix the existing bugs.

- A mid level gaming PC (similar specs to ps4) can cost less than a ps4 if it is built and not bought premade.
I would like to see the "mid" range PC that performs like a ps4 in terms of gaming.
I can buy a PS4 for 350Gé¼ on amazon. the gpu is about as powerful as a 270x, thats atleast 150Gé¼, 180Gé¼ if you actually care about your PC and want a good one with better cooling solution. ~150 for CPU and cheap motherboard and you are already at ~300Gé¼
you still need RAM, cooler, case and power supply. your will be at ~450Gé¼ all together. with compromises you could make it for 400Gé¼ but the PC will be ******, loud, get warm and have low ram which wont compare to a PS4 in terms of performance.
the PC will also never run at 120W under load like the PS4 does. 120W PS4 vs 350W PC, if you play 5 hours a day, thats 100Gé¼ extra per year on your electricity bill in middle EU.
and games will not run as well on your PC as dedicated PS4 games using the PS4 low level API which PS4 exclusive usually do. mantle and directx12 is childs play compared to the low level API that is offered by the PS4. all other games which do not use the low level API will be about equal though.
the PLUS the PC has, if you install a free Linux distro, you can use it for work though and that is the only PLUS the mid range PC can score over the PS4. in terms of gaming, ease of maintanence and comfort in relation to cost ps4 wins out every time againts mid range PC. |

Note: I didn't include a monitor or an OS here because PCs can be plugged into a TV instead of a monitor and linux is always an option if you want to be a pleb (windows 7 recommended though)
thx for repeating what I said.
again PS4 can bought for 300-ú your PC costs 100-ú more, has no blu ray player, bad cooling, low frequency ram with not optimal timings (8 GB of best ram does not cost 30-ú lol just shows how uninformed people are), ugly case with bad air flow and consumes 350W while gaming(2,5 times as much as a ps4). beside that, that is not even close to a ps4. and if you want to make it even remotely close to a ps4 you have to go for small form factor which will easily bump the costs by 100 or more.
as said, the only thing your mid range pc has over the PS4 is getting a free linux distro and use it office stuff. which you pay 100-ú more for.
note, I can do office stuff even on a smartphone with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard + connecting it via HDMI dock to a monitor if I want to, I do not need an extra PC for that. I can even use linux on my smartphone by running a VM. works like a charm. I do not need an extra ****** mid range fanblower pc for that stuff. |

Skihids wrote:The real draw of a PC over a PS4 is that you can spend a bit more and get several times the power, as well as connect any set of gaming peripherals you want: HOTAS, Track IR, Voice Attack, rudder pedals, button panels, multiple monitors, etc.
You are going to spend money on games so it makes sense to have a better experience for each rather than compromise on your platform.
Consoles are a great low cost machine for those unable or unwilling to build a PC. You could attempt to build a PC for PS4 prices, but then you ignore most of the reason to build which is to get a much better machine.
I use a warthog with pedals on ps4 with warthunder and have headtracking through camera. I use it on a nerdytec couchmaster infront of my huge TV and it works like charm. everything can be used on the ps4 as long as the developers allow it in their game.
point is, a mid range pc, while being to do more, does not compete with ps4. my smartphone can also do office stuff, image editing etc.. I can even run a VM with regular desktop OS on a smartphone and plug in a monitor plus connect mouse and keyboard. I can also run a VM on server in my local network and remote connect the phone to it using the servers superior hardware for video editing or even play games with almost no latency over local network. so if ps4 is obselete then a PC is too, cause my smartphone can already do everything a mid range PC is able to and even more if you take a local server into account.
beside that, a mid range PC that can compete with ps4 in terms of power still costs more and is a loud room heater under load. |

I own a PC that boasts comparable or better specs than the PS4. It is absolutely not loud and doesn't make my room hot So what the **** are you going on about?
you missed the point, as you usually do.
your PC costs how much? is most likely in a big tower. and still eats 350W under load.
I can get a PS4 for 350Gé¼ with 2 controllers and a game in a bundle on amazon.
beside that, my smartphone can do everything your PC can and even more with the help of virtualization and a server. your PC obviously is obsolete, bow down to smartphone master race. |

You are too funny Jack. I enjoy reading your posts; it's like the Dust 514 equivalent to The Onion. My PC was just shy of $500 (450Gé¼). I want to say $460, but it has been a while. I can upgrade it with a new GPU, more RAM, or more powerful CPU. If a new bit of cooling tech comes out I can upgrade it if I want to. If you want a new PS4 you will need to buy the newest model. Hell, a new PS4 with a SSD came out recently. Anyone who owns the old PS4 will need to upgrade: another $400 down the crapper. As for power, I live in TN where power is 10.61 cents per kilowatthour. Some of the cheapest in the country thanks to the hydroelectric power we have here. I'm just fine with my PC's power consumption.
I am glad you are amused
anyway power consumption of a PC adds up here in Austria. playing several hours a day results in almost 100Gé¼ extra per year.
and btw you can exchange the harddrive of the PS4. it is as simple as plug and play, I have a 1 TB hybrid drive installed.
and the PS4 has something that PC does not have. a very optimized low level API but developers are generally to lazy to optimize their games and use it and only a few games run on it. the low level API is what makes the hardware shine. just look at the PS3 and uncharted, killzone or the last of us. those games look great running on hardware from 2005 due to the low level API. directx and mantle is child play in comparison. no PC with hardware from 2005 would be able to run such games that well. |

the better question is, why would you get a bendphone when you can get a shiny Z3 or Z3 compact |

the move to console was simply a logical marketing decision. CCP does not want to divert the already aquired PC players, they wont get more money out of it. money the already existing PC customers spend into Dust is not spend on EVE. CCP wants to get new customers from a different market and as such I think this will not change.
I also think the legion announcment was just a farce. what they have presented is only a few ideas and them playing Dust 514 with higher res textures running on a high end rig since it can easily be ported cause its running on unreal engine.

Raven-747 wrote:Porting to ps4 will result in a huge loss of player base, so umm no.
you mean instant rise? many players moved on to ps4 and btw f2p gaming is running well on ps4 and ps4 has the highest market share of all consoles currently. in EU its 70-90% depending on the country.
anyway, dust made profits, didnt it? (atleast according to CCP). if they can make dust profitable on a dead console they can for sure make it profitable on a console with high market share and living community.

if legion is going to happen, it will be just dust 514 with a few extras and different progression system, nothing else. |

its almost too late for a port now. there are already some established f2p titles on ps4 (plus others coming) and if CCP waits too long they will miss the opportunity. |
