We aren't talking about it because it is a waste of time and bits.

First the game is running on Unreal Engine 3+. To move forward you would need Unreal Engine 4. It is a significantly better product and even though it was announced in 2005 it never made it to the PS3. The move to any different engine would require significant work. UE3 to UE4 alone has massive scripting differences, they are not compatible. So all the in game work is a rewrite.

The recent system change at CCP has allowed a simpler art asset pipe line. That doesn't mean that will easily translate everything in game to work on any other system. Better than the old system, yes. Easy, no.

Dust514 is profitable now. Because they cut the staff to the bone. CCP Rattati volunteered to take on this project and, even though we disagree 50% of the time, he has done a remarkable job. However, the staff available to him to do the port simply isn't there. Adding staff will make Dust514 back into a money losing project. And that would be the death of it.

So, give it up. Until CCP Rattati works out a magical solution (he might) or makes enough profit (he won't) to fund the port Dust is staying where it is.

And please don't mention MSFT again. They charge $40k to update a game. Yep, any release that touches the client software is yet another $40k hit and your profit just got a lot thinner. Plus, in the original effort MSFT wanted all purchased items to go through their store, not just AUR and packs. Their attitude changes on the perceived value of the game (think Minecraft before they bought it) and Dust doesn't have any real value.

We are scraping by, count your blessings.

How about we wait for Legion instead?

Whenever I have asked "why isn't CCP even saying 'we are looking into it'?", it immediately does what this thread has done:

"PC Master Race!"
"No! PS4!"
"PC is more better because of EVE!"
"No Legion failed because of PC!"

It becomes a pissing contest to see who can yell "MY SIDE IS BETTER!" and the larger question of "why isn't CCP being more open with whether they intend DUST to continue past the PS3?" gets completely ignored. As to that question, there are a few possibilities:

1. They don't want to announce anything, even a "hmm, that might be a good idea", until they are locked in on what they are going to do.
2. They think any kind of transition is going to be seen as much of a failure as Rouge Wedding. "We said we were transitioning, they screamed at us." (Note, people actually screamed at how poorly this information was handled)
3. They are truly not sure if they want to continue with DUST. DUST on the PS3 is profitable; CCP could decide to just run out the clock on the PS3 and earn a little bit of money. Reinvesting into a game that has had super mixed reviews is risky.
4. The second they announce "we are thinking about transitioning", the forums will ignite into what system it should go to.
5. The second they announce "we are transitioning to X", everyone who does not have an X will immediately stop playing the game. I don't have a PS4 and don't intend to have one. If CCP announced "we are going to PS4", my interest in the game would likely evaporate. Same goes for people that are in the other boat labeled "I don't have a PC that could run it."

This is a super s*** situation we are in that only has one way of ending happily.

You are going to keep your character names, your Corporations, your faction standings, your SP, and a limited amount of items (we are still working on this but at the moment it is only aurum items, boosters, warbarge components, and skins/BPO's). DUST 514 is transitioning from the PS3 to the PS4 AND PC. You will be able to choose which system you wish to play and we are supporting Cross Platform Play. Finally, console players and PC players can hash out their differences by shooting each other with hot plasma!"

I hope the above announcement happens one day. I hope that they are working on the above right now, trying to make sure everything is in order before they drop that bombshell.

I honestly do not get what the hold up is for this. The programming is very similar to PC these days and porting has been simplified by PS and Microsoft both. Now from PS3 to those, maybe not. But still, c'mon man!

If they were to stop developing this version and say all resources are going to a next gen development effort, I would probably be inclined to drop some cash while toughing out the rest of this versions life.

They have to have a better idea of the player numbers than we do. I'm convinced the numbers are really, really low considering people logging in on alts for their labs. There's no telling how many of the logins you see are on for less than a few minutes.

I'm not able to play much at the moment, but last week was pretty bad. FW was busy, but I've heard that's dying down. I love what they are doing with Dust at the moment, but it seems they need to make an announcement soon or people are going to take it as a sign that it's going to die on the PS3.

I'm not sure how fun Dust is going to be if the numbers shrink much more.

Which is also true, and your suggestion was aimed in a good direction. Providing a fresh new experience is a good way to bring in new customers.

VR just isn't the best way to execute on that. HOWEVER, the sense of first-person immersion that the Valkyrie experience is designed around could easily be applied to Dust even without a VR headset.

As an example, here is a video of an FPS build from the recent Star Citizen asset leak.

As you can see, it does quite a good job of making you feel like you're inside the helmet. I think if CCP Shanghai cooperated with CCP Newcastle and swapped some ideas they could come up with a first-person interface that's as immersive as what I linked.

Hello people of Dust 514.

From what I have heard CCP has already tried to push Sony to port Dust 514 to PS4 already. However Sony denied it under the grounds that it had "Too many bugs." So to port Dust 514 to PS4 it would have to be spotless in term of bugs, and with every new major update, there is always new bugs. Heck, there's new bugs from the updates that are supposed to fix the existing bugs.

It had certainly better not be leading to the announcement of Dust 514 exclusive to PC and a shutdown date for the PS3 version. Hopefully they learned from the last time they did that.

We need a greenlight. That means big CCP will have to invest in our dedicated group now. To invest in something means you have to believe in the product the "buy in" we have has to be more than the aurum or the districts we hold... It has to be us all coming together create something the gaming industry has not seen before. We create the ONE UNIVERSE//ONE WAR the old guard promised with the community agreeing both on EvE and Dust with little to no development action. It can be done and there is things on my end that are in the works. Have patience and support it no matter how ya feel about me and I will have a finished product everyone will +1 on.
