can pelt these ******* with triple damage modded proto AV all day and they shrug it off and retreat into redline cover. yet they can oneshot infantry with impunity.
zero risk.
why is this an acceptable game mechanic?

Because most maps, they can only see on flag from there, and can't stop hacks. If they stay in their redline you will win the match. If they come out, have at them.

Get over it. Until runing tanks is actually profitable this will never stop being a thing.
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.

That is possible for ONE REAL reason:
The redlines are too close to the focal point of the fights. Period.
All other aspects are necessary: the tank fitting ability, the existence of redline, the tanks ability to survive one or two AV/antitanktank hits...
If the maps would be a longer, not wider, tunnel: the only time people could redline snipe or redline tank would be when they themselves are pushed to their own homeline.
Looking at both sides of the coin.
Even Aurum one.

snipers you can kill with a sniper. there is a risk. that is acceptable.

When tankers see that they no longer need to fear losing isk from their tanks, then you see them coming out of the redline, why on earth would I stay in the battle and lose up to 1 million isk just for you to feel good about yourself?

I partially blame the maps. In smaller maps, being outside the redline means that rail tankers are putting themselves at a severe range disadvantage.
Nothing can be done about it now, but maps like the 5 point skirmish with the small bridge (in domination, the point is on said bridge), fight redline HAVs very well because 1: you can't hit much from the redline, and 2: the redline is up a hill, which takes a little longer to climb.
Also yesterday, I saw a blaster HAV trying to redline snipe on that map. It was quite amusing.

Also because (at least in the matches I play) rails and missiles are used on shield tanks. If a shield tank leaves the redline, there is like a 78% chance they WILL be destroyed by AV and an armor tank
