I say shorterm because the longerm issue is obviously hardware related.
The issue I speak of is one that I've brought up until I'm blue in the face. Lack of effort, passive play, and fear of competition. We have a playerbase far more concerned about accruing SP, ISK, and other assets than winning matches.
I joined a random squad finder squad and we were in a hard fought match. Our team was getting overwhelmed and the cries of proto started up. I just asked, why not break some out and win this match?? It was like I asked them all if I could bang their significant other.
I've just never been able to put the passive mindset together with the hoarding concept, what are people earning this SP for? What are the items they are accruing going to be used for? When do they plan on transitioning from hoarder to fighter?

I believe there's already some sort of plan in place to make a win more valuable, however.
I do like the idea behind the way it's currently done, but somewhere along the way it doesn't work. I've tried to look at it from new player to veteran but I don't see any scenario where giving up 3 minutes into a fight or not ever starting at all is acceptable.

When someone's using proto gear it's usually because they're confident enough in their skills or their resources that they won't go into the red after the match. I'm not quite at that point yet. Soon, though.
In the meantime, gathering up a lot of SP to improve my skills and dropsuit proficiency also improves the capabilities of my gear, which makes them better for me to use, and, in turn, me slightly more capable in a match.
Only time right now I'll run proto anything is on my logi, which has a proto repper, and on my hacker scout, on which I use a few proto hacking modules. Aside from that, I mostly run standard with a few advanced thrown in here and there.
I dunno, maybe if I ran the risk of going proto for a few matches I might find I'm actually skilled enough to not end up in the red and could maybe go toe to toe with some of the folk who normally run proto, but until I'm certain I'll be able to afford enough deaths to find out how much proto actually helps me, I'll stick with my standards.
[Edit] That said, though, I've never run away from a match just because the opposing team were proto-stompers. I'll stick in the fight as long as I'm able, even if I'm only able to help by hacking units and dropping uplinks or nano-hives.
Dude, you need an APEX suit. Go do some FW.

(if you play or played domination you will see what im talking about) heck i even posted some ideas here to give some of the excesive power that has squads over actual teams whitout it here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=203438&find=unreadbut what ever im sure this most likely wont change and people will keep complainig that others are leaving, redline sniping, and such anyways.
Are you insane? Team scans, super scouts, OB nerfs
The game has slowly shifted away from squad/team play. The reason solo play is more difficult is that there are fewer squads willing to carry the weight.
And it's an FPS. If people are casual, be casual playing balls out without a care in the world.

If people are casual, be casual playing balls out without a care in the world. i disagree. Solo play has been COMPLETELY nerfed. Before i could earn an OB solo 20% of the time (which is awesome, rewards those who play the best) Bandwidth was the final straw for us all.
And it doesn't even register for me. Sometimes I don't spawn in a heavy because I don't want to kill my links, that's it.
Solo isn't effective because everyone is solo. Sometimes you've got a squad on one side, sometimes each side has a squad. Solo is most effective when you are lonewolfing while squads are keeping the enemy distracted. I don't normally even consider if a person is going to have backup when engaging them because odds are he's just a hero making a break for the hack on B.

I believe there's already some sort of plan in place to make a win more valuable, however. This^^ I don't need to waste isk on this one match when there will be how many more of the same. Hou could potentialy keep asking people to lose isk by breaking out the good stuff. No reason for proto in pubs anyway. No proto in pubs would fix one third of matchmaking right there. The other two being no premades and no comms. Total random, insta join and out.
I'd rather them just tweak the incentives to push people to group up and overcome. It would be fine to have ambush be the mode that you speak of, I'd love it.
Wouldn't it be a more fun game if people were attracted to the point with proto players because there's more potential reward if you end up killing them and winning?
