How many people think MATCH BUILDING is the single most important issue requiring correction in this game?
What good are all the rest of the fixes and updates if you can't keep a full match of 32 players?

Georgia is on to something. I think the matchmaking is actually in a good place.
Player populations are in tiers. We think of them as newberry and veteran but there are many more layers than that. Dust 514 is on this dinosaur of a console which creates huge gaps in our tiers. Matchmaking attempts to fill matches so it puts players in tiers they don't belong in. This is where all the "I'm in empty matches!" complaints from vets come from as well as the "I'm getting stomped all the time!" from the newberrys.
TL;DR - GET DUST 514 OFF OF THE PS3 NOW

While I agree it's the most important issue, I think it's pretty good to note that it's still hardly an issue.
Dust is in pretty good shape.
Some details can be ignored

We need to be careful here.
Agreed that matchbuilding is vitally important, however, imo the matchmaker is doing it's job well, even with our small population. That's quite impressive and speaks well for Rattati's technical skills.
Don't blame the match maker.
What's hurting us is a lack of supporting mechanics for how matches are played out. Plain and simple we need real contracts for pubs, written as they would be written in New Eden. Such a system would take care of quitting and being dropped into far-gone matches.
If it were up to me we'd design a full contract system right now that was engineered to work with EVE's contract system, should that day ever come. Start with the database and rulset from EVE, flesh it out using solid, forward-looking design to add what we need here in DUST, then turn off the EVE functionality and make it part of the PS3 client. Initially we'd use it for pub contracts but it would be there ready and waiting for when we start issuing contracts to each other for PvP or PvE.
Lastly we also need to take a second look at the details of how and when ISK/WP are rewarded - there are some irrationalities in our current ruleset that are working against the game.

Matchmaking is the reason I didn't play for about a month and the reason I have not enjoyed the 20 or so matches I've played in the last 3 days or so since I came back to check it out. |

I agree, matchmaking is pretty important. I think the real issue here, is our lack of a community. Maybe if CCP did some work to get us new players, we wouldn't have this issue. On the other hand, if they kept the players that they do have happy, we wouldn't lose players. Kind of a chicken n the egg situation

It's lack of players rather than a team building glitch, terrible player retention and utter shitetasticness (it's a word, look it up) of NPE are the problem not MM or team building. Can't build a team if there's no one to fill it.

From the beginning the best thing Dust 514 had to offer was a connection to Eve and the notion of merging players into a bigger battle. We have some videos of mercs defending space stations during a space battle, but it is apparently too hard to code.
Bring back the hope of an exciting future and the queues will fill up. |

You gotta do something first... Compare the fact you can "sometimes" get a good battle and "occasionally" get into a match within a few minutes, to the fact that you can "never" avoid half the bugs in the game. |

I actually would prefer hit detection, strafe penalties, terrain glitches and other various smoothing bugs addressed first. I don't care if its 8v10 so long as the shots land and I don't be running on mushrooms the whole dang game.

Match building is a symptom, not a problem.
The real problem, IMO, is lack of players.
Said a bit differently, it's easy to build matches when you've got 10,000 players, and quite a bit harder with 1,000. |
