So it's not the YLOD but it's blinking red and idk what else to do.
I've tried restarting it, turning it off and holding the the eject button while turning it back on to activate the fan, putting it in an open air space etc, I need help to save my PS3 from the blinking red lights?

ok, it's over heated, did you have it standing on it's side? If not, just let it sit a while and try again.. if it still don't work, you need some thermal paste and a heat gun to reset the graphics thing or w/e the hell it is called. You can fk it up entirely if you don't know what you are doing. |

Ok, thanks, so I can just unplug it and leave it in a good spot with airflow, and no it was not on its side just in an enclosed space but with all sides open for ventilation(only thing covering it is the riff and floor of whatever this thing is called)

Its YLOD type of problem. You overheated it.
Even if it isn't a yellow light, its the same thing as YLOD.
To fix it, you simply need to reflow all of the circuitry in a specific area of the motherboard IIRC, reflux around the area, and replace heat sinks.

If you don't get it working and you just want to play Dust on the PS3. And you don't want to spend $ on a brand new one.
Go to your local pawn shop and buy the PS3 with the broken blue ray player. You don't need the blue ray to play DUST.
Don't pay more than $25 tops.

Well you can fix it yourself, it's not very complicated. I guess if you're somewhat tech-savy. But doing so will definitely void your warranty, and most likely your trade-in. There's a sticker you need to remove, to remove a screw. When said sticker is removed, a hologram appears, on the sticker. Making it obvious you've pulled the sticker off. Anyways, you can fix it yourself, you just need a heat gun and some thermal grease. The whole thing will cost you less than $30 and there's plenty of videos about how to do it

I did this a few times with my old PS3, yes it may sound weird BUT IT WORKS.
It is NOT a permanent fix and will only last 3-6 months every time you do it.
Eventually it will give up and it won't work any more, mine gave up after 4 times but all in all I got it to work an extra year.
Back when I was told about this heat gun fix I was like "YEAH SURE THING DUDE" on the other hand I had nothing to loose by trying and it really works. |
