DUST Search - Laser Rifles should be buffed

You could achieve the change by modifing the laser rifles stats or you give the laser rifle operation skillbook something like 3% less heat build up per lvl instead of the 5% cooldown rate which is in my opinion useless cause you need quite some time to reload the thing and during that time the heat build up would be gone regardless if you have the useless bonus or not. The skill bonus however would buff all lasers and they might actually become somewhat usefull on a amarr commando suit.

Considering that the Laser rifle is probs one of the least used weapons you might give it another buff by removing the efficency penalty for close range targets (if you didnt know the closer somebody is to you the less damage it will deal). That way new players would not just get murdered when they try to play the objective with it. Cause something needs to be done to help it to get out of the "scrub" niche which is currently is placed in.

Which would be bad; the last thing we need is greater disparity between STD-ADV-PRO weapons. Also, in he hands of a capable user they are utterly terrifying. That being said, they could do with some alterations; better ADS for a start; keeping the beam on a distant target can be a real chore. And the operation skill is indeed useless. It already is extremely deadly in the right hands. I believe it is not widely used in the field because of handling and skill required. Look at the Rail Rifle has better range and easy to use. This is a specialist Rifle and should remain so. If anything I would just fix the ADS(super sensitive no matter your settings), improve hit detection, and increase ammo carried. Most good opponents stay in cover and won't come out -- hence it is one of the best suppression weapons in the game. It is also trash up close, making rifle users VERY vulnerable to everything (especially cloaks) as well as long range armor killing guns (hallo RR.) THAT's why almost no one uses it. But it doesn't suck. It's really a very good gun. Just not going to pad your KDR and feed ya WP/ISK/SP like the other guns.

Since allmost nobody touches it it should get a buff. The thing is,it has a very different play style compared to other weapons out there. It is almost always only suited for long range fighting. It has lower damage at close range further more it has no dispersion. Another niche weapon you can compare to it is the plasma rifle. But why does it get more love you ask? simply put it has extremely high damage and has aoe which can be used at CQC while like i said before the LR has no dispersion and low damage initially. Where the LR shines is supression, it is mostly for pushing back the opposition meaning all you will be getting are kill assists mostly. People don't like this,they want kills and this is one more reason why this gun is unpopular. When not many people use it,it doesnt always mean the weapon is underpowered. Lets take another Amarrian tech as an example,the scrambler rifle before the AScR buff, not many people use this weapon long before. Mostly its was the rail rifle but that didnt mean the ScR was weak, oh no, back then you will see people crying that the Viziam killed them but were overshadowed by the "NERF RR PLS" threads. But they are a bit more than good at the moment (Not OP). You just have to be more than 50 meters away but a bit less than 130 meters. The heat/dmg buildup is a challenging but very satisfying and effective mechanic. At mid range/closing you can still use it effectively by holding down the laser to either suppress your enemy as you retreat to better cover or to clip them with the end of it before you switch to SMG. Third high slot should be sidearm dmg mod.

I will agree with you in that the STD and ADV Laser Rifles seem like they don't have enough oomph to really kill people. The Viziam is fine.
