With the great ideas of Power Core slots and Tiericide floating around, I think the time is right to necro an old idea regarding Loadout management which could further simplify the Loadout concept and potentially give a performance boost.
Basically the idea is to separate your inventory into two parts; General inventory and Loadout Inventory.
Currently all modules in a Loadout is "drawn" from you single inventory. Even if you go to battle with only 1 Loadout, your entire inventory needs to be loaded into battle so modules can be hot-swapped and restocked.
The idea is that a single Loadout becomes a self contained entity which you have X number of, rather than a derived number based on how many modules you have in inventory.
When you edit or create a new Loadout, you will only select which type of module you fit. No number will be presented on each individual module, only the total quantity for the entire Loadout matters. You can only restock the entire Loadout, which will "remove" appropriate quantity of each module and weapon from your inventory, or purchase them on the market (basically today's "restock to" option).
This will have several benefits: - Makes the UI simpler as you won't have two "restock" options. - Separate the dependency between Loadouts, so if you loose one Loadout (which share the same modules), the others will not reduce in quantity. - Only the modules, equipment and weapons fitted into the Loadouts needs to be loaded into battle, freeing up resources. - Potentially makes a corp inventory easier to implement, since you will draw from a pool of "prefitted" Loadouts.
Slight downside: - To make this work properly, the "edit" option in-battle needs to be removed. You could still restock the entire Loadout, but not be able to create new one or edit an existing. However, since the Loadouts are separate entities you don't have to worry about running out of one suite because you died in another, so I think the need to edit will diminish greatly.

Interesting idea. Not to sure I'm all for not purchasing equipment beforehand though, since I kind of like to play around and purchase stuff to build my Loadouts.
However, I do agree the restock option in-game is a problem, and should be removed IMHO. Sadly with the current inventory mechanic it's a necessary evil, since critical suites very easily will go invalid at a bad times due to the sharing of modules between suites.
I would prefer to combine my proposal above with the removal of restock option completly. This means you will knowingly bring 10 Assaults and 20 Scouts to a fight. Even if the Assault and Scout have the same modules equipped, you can die 30 times in that game. |
