It has never made much sense to be.. If your going to load that much Plasma into a Cannon... Should it not resemble the firing mechanic of a Plasma Cannon ??
My proposal for changes
- Large Turret - Fires a low blast radius plasma charge with reasonable DMG, low clip size
- Small Turret - Fires a low blast radius plasma charge with low DMG, high clip size
Before you flip.. and say NO I like my blaster turret GTFO.. have patience. Looking at Tank battles.. the Rail and Missile provide good suppression and battle well at range where the Blaster turret literally has to shove it up his a$$ to gain the advantage.. IF the ION Cannon actually acted like a Cannon there would be a Shield turret to compete with Rails/Missiles
Tank battles would have some more diversity - Gunnlogi Rail - Madrugar Cannon would be well matched, without it being head on charge Vs pitching a tent, both would be a threat to the other at range.
And because we don't want to lose items - the current 'Blaster' could be adjusted, taking away the Gallente tech And allow the Matari to get their hands on it, cover it in scrap metal... and we have a HMG turret
So we would have 4 turrets until the Amarr get in on this, each filling a good role
- Missile/Rail = long range defence vs Armour vehicles - Blaster Cannon = long range defence vs Shield vehicles - Matari MG turret = close range infantry killer + F YO Madrugar ? Amarr Turret - given the roles of the above something for close range would go well ?
An actual vehicle specialist / spreadsheet warrior could take a look at this and add numbers But I am thinking if turrets lined up like this.. it would bring tanks closer to balance, and add a new variety The Small Turrets would be adjusted in a similar fashion to the proposal..
(these changes would go well with the duck-tape changes we have had in recent months)
As there would not be much new (excluding Amarr Turret) but simply adjustments to what we have currently.
HMG + Blaster Turret = Matari MG Turret PLC + Blaster Turret = Blaster Cannon

I 100% agree here.. I have always imagined a Matari Mass Destruction turret what could have been And the only reason I suggest to keep a MG turret is to keep current tankers with what they have already, I'd have no issue with it being removed though.. with the amount of AV infanrty carry, tanks deserve to slaughter them
Seeing an Ion Cannon launching blobs of death would be great though, much better than the Blaster we have.
