As someone who follows the game industry quite a bit, the abandoning of trademarks is very common for titles with long development cycles. It's mostly due to someone forgetting to renew and gets corrected with a week. Let's wait and see.

If development of Legion actually stopped. I hope that anything developed for Legion will be put into Dust 514, or perhaps even a PC Port. (Only reason I own a PS3 is for Dust, Yea I am one of those guys =P )

As much as I think cross-play between Console and PC is opening a can of worms they don't need to be opening, the big thing we're all actually opposed to was the originally stated intent to replace Dust 514 with a PC game.

First CCP signed exclusivity deal for Dust514 on the PS. Yeah, PS4 or nothing is the only option. Unless you think CCP can out lawyer Sony. That is partly why Legion will never happen. Dust514 had so much support from Sony they can't hose them.
Secondaly - That party was nuts! Sax, Oil, vampires, and wtf were the Cories doing there? Plus Tom Sellock and David Bowie!

I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility for CCP and Sony to let Dust 514 transition off the Playstation consoles amicably. No lawyers or litigation required.
PC is CCP's home field. It's where they made a name for themselves with Eve Online. On PC there is a huge audience just waiting for a quality future-tech RPGFPS F2P game on Steam and other such services.
Hell on Steam alone there are 125 million active accounts. That is more than Xbox, PS4, and WiiU combined (40 million).

Exclusivity deals have these magical things called expiration dates.
A lot of speculation was that the contract expired on March 2015 which would line up with them now allowing the Legion trademark to expire.
Dust is likely able to go anywhere they want it to at this point. |

Exclusivity don't last forever.
They may have only signed for a 10 year plan. I don't really know the details of the contract, and I don't think you do, either. |

Funny thing is everyone thinks I don't know contracts expire. I have written some up and signed even more.
I don't know the contract details, but logical assumption is that any exclusivity agreement would be for more than 2 years. 2 years is a minimum in most contract lives, with typical range being 3-5 years if any investment is expected by both parties. If you consider the first year is expected to be all losses in development and building a player base, years 2-3 are expected to be the lucrative years while 4+ are waning years for most games while a transition to a new game is planned. Especially F2P. Just stating that, Sony most likely would force any shooter produced by CCP with a New Eden integration to be on PS is my logical assumption.
I would like to see Dust on Steam, but if you didn't hear, the PS4 wanted Steam integration and Valve said "No". I would love to see Steam on the PS4 but I will leave that to Sony to fight that battle.

This would be awesome! We are also operating under the assumption that CCP and Sony have an exclusivity agreement. Just because a game is on one platform that does not mean an exclusivity agreement is in place.
Don't count on ever seeing Steam on a console. PC players would go apeshit and Valve would notice a large decline in Steam usage.

This is actually good news.
Here's how I see it.
CCP was chugging along with Dust nicely, suddenly, behind the scenes CCP switched their attention to "Legion". Appears now that was a huge blunder. Remember, Legion was never at all given any official 'Green Light' announcement, rather an unofficial sort of 'Hey! Look at this!'. No announcement, no dates, nothing. Just a neat 5 minute video.
Since then, CCP has completely back-pedaled and is acting as if Legion never existed, like the Star Wars Holiday Special of New Eden. CCP has been balls-deep developing Dust since then, coming out with rapid patches and hot-fixes and cool content.
That's the signs of a team not working on Legion anymore.
But again, I think that's a good thing. It means they are focused on building and improving Dust, which considering the limited life-span left on the PS3, means there must be a long-term plan in place, and I don't mean Legion. Obviously there is a lot going on behind the scenes right now. My prediction is that the current plan is to continue developing Dust as long as possible on the PS3, and then port DUST (not Legion) to whatever platform may be next.
I'm hoping it stays on consoles. Consoles are for shooters. I would buy a PS4 for Dust 2.0
TLDR; I think Legion was scrapped shortly after it's 'faux-announcement'. The current plan is to probably develop Dust as quickly as possible and get as much content ready for Dust (not legion) to leap to another platform.
!--CCP, let's push for the license of Dust on both current Gen consoles--!

Was reading about CCP's giving up the patent a while ago.
Could mean anything or nothing. For my money it means whatever they do going forward, if they go forward, they're keeping the 'Dust 514' name.
