But I'm now wondering if he still thought that he would keep his stuff if he got out.

Only thing that games usually don't track at that point is if your team won or not after you left. I'm not sure if it really tracks it or not for the win/loss.. but I have had it count towards my win 1 game before. Got disconnected towards end , was winning and got pissed.. logged back in, and it showed I had a win. Same has even also somehow for the complete x amount of games. Get disconnected , come back and the point is added to that daily mission as having been done. it takes a few minutes , but once the game I was in finished, it added. it might be tied to only disconnects and not actually leaving battle.. /shrug
It definitely does count your W/L: I'm 100% certain.
