CONTEXT after reading this, I decided to post an idea for the issue:
Adipem Nothi wrote:CCP Rattati wrote:Yeah, i had to leave for a meeting. It turned into a stomp so I wasn't inspired to go all in.
I studied that match though. Basically what can happen is that players used to leave, but they got replenished, so it looked like 16v16, but in reality 50% weere new additions, and 45% redlining waiting it out, and 5% putting up a fight.
It's just more apparant, when players are less put into matches that are over, as was the request of the community. The guys who come in late don't get paid very well EOM. Tough to field a proto suit and kick arse if I know I'll be in the hole from one death. Would be neat if there were an Isk incentive tied to the WP earnings of late arrivals ... would make getting boned by Scotty alot less annoying! Pair that with an underdog bonus when up against bad odds, and you'll have me wanting to get put into half-over matches.
I know CCP has some metrics to determine how far gone a match is and is currently balancing how and when to add players to vacant spots in teams.
PROPOSAL: Suppose that when a corporation who issued the public contract starts losing AND they are outnumbered, they become desperate. New arrivals from that point on receive 1.5 x the reward for coming into, and completing, a losing battle and 2.5x the rewards if it turns into a win. This will encourage fresh mercs to stay in the match and fight hard. It would be preferable if there was some sort of indication when the NPC Coporation has become desperate for the win, and ups the paycheck for new arrivals.
Currently if you arrive in a fight halfway through, whether you are winning or losing, you always end getting a very low pay. This encourages players to leave the fight and look for a fresh one, regardless of winning or losing, simply because death happens. Even if you top the leaderboard in war points, despite arriving late, you will still take a hit to your payout.
Thank you for reading !!

If anything of the sort happens - make sure the EOM screen specifically mentions the reason why you received an extra reward. E.g. make the extra rewards a separate slice in the ISK reward pie.

This.
The only reason why joining battle near the end annoyed people is because:
#1) you get next to no isk
now to make matters even worse
#2) you don't have enough time to get 150 wp so no SP either.
Without knowing it, CCP has incentivised quitting matches.
It amazes me that more people don't learn from Valve (steam) and piracy. Increasing punishment on pirates didn't slow down piracy. Increasing incentives for buying games (steam sales, libraries, etc...) turned a lot of pirates into customer though.
If you want players to do something, find out why they don't do that thing. Punishment will only drive them away.

Perhaps there also needs to be an incentive to get those folk outta the redline (or prevent them going in it in the first place) when they start losing. Not sure what that would be, but you need to keep the whole team engaged in the fight.
What incentive is there for a merc to sit back and not join the fight? Coz they still get paid? If so, should ISK payout be more tightly linked to what you do in the match? |

I've always stated that any payouts should come with a qualifier. A minimum of 3 Kills/Deaths (any combination) or 300 WP. These #'s would have to be scaled for those entering battle late. This is a topic for a different thread though.

As a qualifier for what constitutes "desperate," the entire MCC Shield is gone or 50% of clones are gone. That is basically 1/2 the battle which I think would be enough time to give people a chance to rack up some WP.

Yeah isk should be directly tied to WP and WP only. I'm tired of rewards being linked to time in battle. It was put in I guess to help the new bros but really what they needed was better matchmaking. So, now that matchmaking is being fixed let's make payouts a function of WP only and let's make the top of the leader boards actually worth something.
Two examples. I go hard and top the leader boards but only make 300k isk even though I spent a million, fought hard, and won. This is terrible.
Example two. I join the battle late fight really hard, end up getting in 4th place after only a few minutes (I guess my team was terrible) but I only make 90k isk. This is really terrible.
Tldr; link isk payout to WP only, forget the time in match nonsense. Dramatically increase payouts towards the top of the leaderboards. This will incentivize players to play hard in all situations no matter when they join. |

I agree with you, though this likely won't change much if you have more than one or two rep Logis on your side. You can slay your arse off, but you won't touch their WP (and your payout is calculated by your relative ranking).
This is part of the reason why I'd favor introducing a "keep what you kill" salvage mechanic (in addition to regular EOM pay).

I'd love to see some sort of salvage system (in the salvage what you kill model) in addition to what we currently have. Slayers won't directly get isk, but can maybe salvage 35% of everything they've destroyed (determined by RNG).
Combine this with an option to sell salvaged items on the End Of Match screen and we will have something REALLY slick !
