A idea occurred to me while playing yesterday.
- People complain about players leaving matches. (There have been several threads about of introducing some form of punishment for doing so.)
- People complain the Matchmaking does not fill up matches. (The last one was a counter to people complaining about beeing put into matches that effectivly over.)
So what if: -Players that leave matches regularly get tagged by the Matchmaker, and are used to fill up uneven games until the match end.
If you want to play a match from the start? Then finish the pervious bloody game! You want to take the easy route out and leave? Fine, but the next game(s) you queue for will throw you in as replacements for your quitting buddies.
Additional note: With a system as above, it will be quite likley quitters will join the exact same game as they left if they re-queue immediately . |

Perhaps the new meta level modes will help a bit with this.
I honestly don't know (or understand) why people leaving games apart from dropped squad members or disconnects. Perhaps really bad lag could also be a valid reason.
But from my experience (after new matchmaking) proto stompers are no longer valid. Yes, there might be a proto stomping squad on the other side, but then you have some serious players on your side as well.
I suspect it's an old habit from pre-matchmaking which (quite often) put you totally outnumbered against unfair odds. People just have a habit of leaving when they see a full squad of a known corp, assuming the result will be as before.
When people start to leave, the remaining players will be stomped to the ground, furfilling a self proclaimed prophesy. The next game they see the same squad, and might leave as well thinking it was the proto stompers fault they lost, rather than the 6 people which just gave up and left.
If we just could have some faith in the new system, I think people will see it's much better than before. But if people continue leaving we will never get to that point.

There is just one problem. Waiting for a match in FW takes far longer than getting into a pub match and you often find yourself playing the unusual game of who can form a squad the quickest for over an hour.
I agree. The most closest games I have had have been in FW (unclear down to the last tick of the MCC). Granted, since the matchmaking update I have closer games in pubs as well, but far too many are ruined by people leaving.
Funny thing is, in FW we don't even have matchmaking. Motivation is a powerful thing... |
