With small blasters NOT completely terribad, there's still the problem of the ADS first person camera. You could try to shoot in third person, but since the ship is in the way, and you don't have splash damage, that's just silly (though i'm sure someone out there can do it).
Because you can't move it independently from the ship, you have to tilt the nose down in order to fire at infantry, which only gives you a brief moment before you have to pull up again. One suggestion (which a few players are very adamant about *cough* Fiend *cough*) is to enable the first person camera to swivel just like the third person camera. The only problem with that is that the way it is now is perfect for dogfighting.
My suggestion would be to make a button (Maybe L3 on the controller) lock and unlock the camera in first person mode (maybe even the third person cam too). Pressing it would allow you to swivel the camera up and down just like in third person, and pressing it again would reset and lock the camera in the forward facing position.
That way, erryone's happy!

I like the lock idea. Perhaps it can be modified as to try and make it not overpowered. My Idea is when the gun is locked you have normal Drop ship mechanics. A fixed gun that fires where the aiming reticule is. When in first person mode and unlocked the Drop ship hovers while you have free reign on gun movement. (The drop ship is vulnerable while you have accurate damage) if you get hit then switch out and gtfo. That way when you want to do some mean damage you have to sacrifice your maneuverability.

I'd love to see in first person. Or at the very least, make my drop ship transparent so I can see what I'm shooting at.

like this idea very much. +1
Still open to other ideas as well, I'm sure we can come up with moar.
example: In third person view, punch a hole through the dropship sprite about 60 pixels in diameter, around the reticle, rather than make the ship transparent. Not attached to the idea, just throwing it out there. The more ideas we come up with the more chances of finding the most elegant one for Dust.

Im starting to think this isnt possible for CCP for some reason, since this has been requested since ADS were first introduced.
Logibro even once told me hed take a look into it, and that was the last I ever heard about it lol.

Looks like it was sucked down the memory hole. Perhaps Rattati will be able to reach into the tube and retrieve it.

I like the idea of a toggle button, though i probably wont use it. I think having the first person camera swivel with the gun permananetly is bad news. The current setup is great for more precise flying / shooting /strafing. I don't want the first person 'cockpit' view moving independent of me when i'm flying low, or past obstacles. The last thing i want ot do is take my eyes off of where i am going, if that makes sense.

what's always bugged me is how the incubus is fitted with what seems comparable to a light machine gun, whereas one would assume that an aerial assault vehicle would at least have some sort of anti infantry cannon that fires rapid and explosive/shrapnel shells.. to me, i think this has gone on long enough and really a minmatar flak cannon is in order.
while some of you may still have faith in the old girl, i don't think blasters in their current build will ever be viable on a dropship that can get AV grenaded to death with a hop skip and a merry christmas to you sir.

I've gotten quite a few kills with my blaster incubus, both infantry and shield dropships. Its pretty good with a heat sink. I personally like the first person view as is. Its just the survivability of the incubus makes it extremely difficult. Or maybe I just haven't found the right fit yet...

I just read what Manboar wrote and I think I might agree with that statement. The current blaster is just not very useful in it's current form. We might need a new weapon in order for an ADS to be able to strafe properly. I do not want to derail the purpose of this thread so I will start another one regarding a new weapon system for the ADS.
Back on Topic:
I would actually love to be able to move the front mounted turrets. In a universe where we can jump capital ships light years in moments, I think we should have a gun that moves =P .
