This bug is now escpecially rampant as people have more chat channels due to trading.
Old (locked) report here.
Please fix! I hate killing my PS3 power supply.

This has been around forever and has at least a couple dozen threads. You really got 2 options, reduce it to less than 5 chats or get a solid state drive, till then, this most likely low on the priority list.

Maximum channels less one seems to fix the issue - it doesn't seem to matter what size (how many people) the channel is.
Professional Logibro and avid AVer -- I support my team for the ISK, but I blow up vehicles for the LOLz.

C'moon guys, please read the post with some thought.
I'm pointing out that now (because of trade channels) people have pressure to have more chats,
and because of that the need to fix this 'too-many-chats-cause-crash' bug.
It's a bit redundant - no offense - to offer reducing chats as a fix.
Also, I DO have a SSD. A real, not any hybrid. And that has not been offered as a workaaround to my knowledge before.
So +ì can 100% shoot down the 'SSD fixes toomanychatsbug' fix.
Looking at both sides of the coin.
Even Aurum one.

Small, like a hard freeze requiring a power off reset? Dude, that's major.
Yes, I can read the internet dust forums and therefore I know that chats cause it and removing channels helps.
But tell that to every PS3 console player who are potential permanent players as their precious console freezes for no apparent reason.
Two fixes:
A) "Hello newberry! Network with others and enjoy the social essence of New Eden! But do NOT in any circumstances join too many chats!"
B) Fix the bug
