Admonishment wrote:It is the opposite for me. I always feel like I could learn more. I went through a lot to get to the point I am now. Joined the military right after high school and had my experiences traveling the world. Did my time and when I felt it was time to go I moved on. I never planned to make it a permanent thing so I was always thinking ahead. When I separated I used what I earned to pay my way through college. Due to the types of hours I worked, it was very difficult to have time for school while I was in. For what I wanted to learn, I wanted to be on campus for. So I just waited until the right moment came along. My real goal was to be a game designer. I didn't know much about it at first but over time I became very proficient while learning the different types of software. Even when I received praise for my work, I was never 100% happy with it. I was always thinking on how to improve on what I have done. I was always watching tutorials or asking questions about what could be done differently to make it better. When I did traditional drawing, I spent many hours practicing them daily.
I didn't have all the resources others schools had and I made do with what I had. Worked off demos and other work arounds to get what I needed when resources were limited. My former instructor noticed that even though I had very little to work with, I was working harder and putting out better work than the people with the advantage in technology. Actually walked up to me after watching me build models and said that to me. What keeps me going is never truly being completely happy with what I do and always striving to improve. The second I get the feeling I can't do anything better, something is wrong. That is the one thing that makes me want to do more. Without that, you will have a hard time getting towards a goal.
Finished college many years later and graduated with honors. Even though I was in game design, I didn't play games when it came to getting through school. Others would mess around and not take it seriously. I was always propped in front of a book or looking at tutorials, even in my free time. It payed off though when I aced every single exam. The others would look at me with a confused stare, trying to figure out how I was doing it. The main reason for that is I always dedicated time to what I needed to do and I never waited until the last minute. When I needed to get something done, I immediately got started on it. After all I have experienced over the years, I always try to find ways around problems. The answer may not always be right in front of you but over time it will hit you. There will always be barriers that will get in your way, you simply have to be stubborn enough to keep trying to get around them lol. If you stop, it is pretty much the end of any accomplishment.
Even after all of that, I am still improving on what I have learned over the years. Kept a lot of the habits of researching what I want to know and I put time aside for it. In the end it will be up to you. Just don't ever stop trying. I am doing the same to this day and looking forward. You have to slowly work your way up, start small and over time when you are able, do bigger things.
^^^^^^ All I have to say is Amen to you.
Right now in college I'm taking classes for my major to transfer to a UC.
I'll have to complete and take the following
- 3 Computer classes in coding
- Finish Math till Calculus 3. (Right now I'm in Trigonometry which its not easy)
Although during the summer I'm taking Pre Calculus, Fall Calculus 1, Spring Calculus 2, and Summer Calculus 3.
- A couple of Physics classes = I never took one in high school but I am looking forward to it. - A couple of English classes = good. - Chemistry classes as well.
In terms of friends I really don't make much. I usually hangout with this guy and his major is Computer Science while my is Chemical Engineering. Whenever we rent a room at the library its all just studying.
I take advice from those who are finishing and he or she tells me " always hangout with those who will help you and who have a dream = You'll be successful. if you hang out with those who party, stupid, and lazy = They'll make you fail."
Even one of my friends who's in high school tells me "is it true that you party when going to college?" I tell him " really did you really just tell me that ? my honest answer to you is NO you don't party nor go crazy in college. If you believe that then that person is a joke and stupid. Don't believe what others say because I can tell you that person hasn't been to college."
I even ask myself this ---> " I know its a lot of work that I put into but in the end all those days of staying up late, studying, reading, ect... will pay off in the end."
Even now I rarely touch the ps3 and with this game = don't play much = Its good I guess. In 5 weeks the semester will end for me = It won't be easy since the past 9 weeks = Been HELL lol.
Keep up the good work and keep moving forward. If you ever have a bad day then its ok because tomorrow is going to be a new day = :D
