Level 4 is to prevent the abuse of alt farming.
Most games I know of don't give players access to everything in it unless players spend money, and the same goes for Dust.
So pull out your credit card and spend a little money you cheap arse mofo's. Help the game growth.

OH NOES ALTS.... PLAYERS MIGHT PLAY THE GAME AND SWITCH ASSETS AROUND...
OH NOES....
Use your brain... How does this explain anything away?
It has nothing to do with alts or abuse or anything like that... And COMPLETELY about CCP incentivizing you to buy enough Aurum to let you trade without directly throwing it in your face.
Someone jumps on their alt and spend 60 bux and they are golden. Alts have nothing to do with anything...
It's a **** off not because of CCP shanghai's will to monetize every feature they add to the game recently... It is a **** off because it was something promised to players for nearly 3 years, and instead of just adding and making the game cool and letting players show their appreciation in Aurum sales.. They tried to create an entrance fee to even use the feature they have promised the community for nearly 3 years...
It's just beyond lame and ruins for alot of players what should of been a celebrated feature... For ultimately what? |

There's that. Or---ya know, to prevent alt abuse.
lol. I can't imagine the blood pressure level of some people. Take another perspective: worse case that all players are allowed trading all items on day one. Newbs without a clue lose millions in assets due to predatory trades by scheming vets. Or dare I say a bug or two exists that could cause untold havoc in item dupes or deletion. Easier to trace problems if it's quarantined at the onset.
Are you so assuming that there's no possible reason other then you're own singular view? Mmm forum chest beating is fun, huh?
Just maybe they're thinking a step or two ahead playing chess as opposed to the knuckle- draggers' tic-tac-toe on the off chance something might go wrong. Hm. Enabling level restrictions doesn't seem so ridiculous after all.
Then again, perhaps I'm wrong to speculate their intent. I'm not a dev. *cough*.

People create new characters all day to transfer 250k ISK liquid into the economy... But random bonus items given from a newsletter very rarely, to promote activity is an issue?
You're serious?
And yes 60$ is wrong... But math... And buried forum figures on how Loyalty ranking gains even work. Heaven forbid that the UI actually display how the mechanic works, What the average user doesn't know doesn't hurt them right?
How about Newsletter items have, a special 'Pyus" name beside them offering same stats as the item, just in a non tradeable item.
You know setting up a mechanic for trading that allows you to offer direct bonuses as CCP without hurting the economy? It would kinda be something you design hand and hand in a MMO game while developing trading feature? It's only existed in hundreds of other games.
But hey... It's better alienating thousands of players anticipating this feature because of some newsletter items that the average mercenary doesn't even know about, or even heard about. |

The only problem I have with this is that I can name a few other free shooters that allow trading without paying.
In saying that, it is possible to reach LR4 without paying though it takes a long time. It actually puts people who can't afford aur due to real life circumstances at a disadvantage. However when daily aur comes in (sometime within the next two weeks) it will help people like that out but it will still be slow going.

If you started to farm alts when the WB came outGǪ you wouldnGÇÖt be anywhere near level 5, let alone 4 or even 1. Here is some perspective for you:
If it takes $20 to reach level 4 you need about 20,000 points to reach it. My character in its lifetime has accumulated roughly 30,000 points. I have played since March 2013, I have 5.1 MIL WP, over 3300 wins and over 2300 hours played. I played this game pretty much exclusively for over a year, logging in every day to play for hours. So without AUR I would be barely over level 4. ThatGÇÖs how much effort it takes to reach level 4 without AUR. But as I have spent AUR IGÇÖm sitting pretty at level 9.
It would take an insane amount of time to even reach level 2 on 100 alts. But as has been said before, so long as you pay CCP itGÇÖs ok to farm alts. I donGÇÖt think AUR will ever be transferrable, and if CCP took simple steps they could curb most of the farming. Also, old newsletter items are only available to old characters, making and alt now would yield exactly 0 items from those newsletters.
But anyway, alt farming is the poorest excuse for the level 4 restriction.

yerp. quite. context clues do help though, as I did admit that I'm not a dev and that it's silly of me to define intent---just as it is for you to do.
seriously, you're exaggerating point for point. has nothing to do with alts/risks and only about monetization? not so fast. right or wrong we've sited examples where that could very well be a serious problem. $60 to level 4? hardly, as noted by other posts. 250k trading to justify your comparative argument? again, countered by another post.
point is, you're oversimplifying every point and willfully blowing it all out of proportion on the silly notion that your little view is the only possible view on the matter. i'm not suggesting CCP is a genius chess master; on the contrary, i'm suggesting that your posturing is as simple as tic-tac-toe.
i admit that proving you wrong does not prove me right. on the other hand, it doesn't matter if i'm right or not. the difference is that you're holding on to absolutes and dismissing the possibility of other intents---intents that may or may not include testing purposes, bugs, alt gaming, and yes, even monetiziation. i'm saying you don't know, and here's an example of why that is. nothing more.

You can't get old newsletter stuff on new chars, and they don't send them out enough these days to make that a real problem anyway.
The biggest issue is that they have surreptitiously tied ISK transfer to LR4, as well, which has made it impossible for me to help my friends and killed my alt solely dedicated to giving money to those in need, paywalling a significant part of the game's social aspect (which is one of the only things Dust has had going for it in the long run). New chars start with crap ISK, a few fairly cheap items and no real way to generate meaningful ISK without actually playing, so what's the problem?
I was preparing to buy a good bit of Aur yesterday before I found out about this, but I'll not be bullied into paying to access a feature we've had since practically the beginning, especially with how blatantly disingenuous the official line regarding the intent happens to be. They don't really care if you "exploit", as long as you're willing to shell out the cash to do so.
Reality is the original Rorschach.
Verily! So much for all that.

Only sending items is effected by Loyalty Rank. You can still receive items, regardless of rank.

If this is the case then good. That's the way it needed to have been. But even still, exploits still exist involving new characters. I won't be going into details because spreading details of anything remotely considered an exploit could get be suspended or banned. I will report it to CCP though.

ThatGÇÖs the way it has been. My alts didnGÇÖt get the oldest items, the ones that were given out before their creation. How you managed it is beyond me, did you try all the items? Maybe it gives a previous item or two, donGÇÖt know. The newsletters are not exactly frequent or consistent.
Nonetheless, if thereGÇÖs a bug CCP should fix it. ThatGÇÖs one of the easiest ways of stopping farming. Most of the farming can be easily reduced or made null and void. Level 4 is unnecessary.

I'm not all that upset about the loyalty rank requirement, if I'm being frank. It's $20 to go from a freshly made character to loyalty rank 4. People pay more for used PS3 games. Hell, if you play Dust 514 for a month or two you could spend $10 or less to advance to loyalty rank 4.
They are adding a way to earn aurum from daily logins. The feature was pushed back, but if memory serves it should arrive within the next two weeks. Aurum from daily logins plus actually playing the game will allow for people to earn loyalty rank 4 even easier.

Really ccp? Really? C'mon man ccps lack of respect for the people willing to thro away cash just to keep them running is extremely distasteful. Plus I was hoping meta level matches were going to come a little sooner I hate the fact that now that officer weapons suits are more obtainable than ever ppl are going wild with them pulling them out all the time and not just thales or forks, which were not uncommon and snipers are supposed to be expected as one hit kill weapons as they are. Now it will be even harder to enjoy the game now people protospawncamp to a whole new level and them they will claim that there's no competition when they fully realize that doing so they are afraid of losing and not allowing any competition to blossom. FORCE spawncampers from enjoying the comfort zone by taking away war points and skill points. Uplinks are a grey area, no farming but if someone just happens to spawn in front of them, kill the enemy. I'm sure that will be at least a little fair to the spawncampers as much as I hate to admit it, it is a playstyle but should not be an unhindered one. If these spawncampers keep playing like they do, they will continue to hinder the growth of new players that want to experience every good thing about this game and the game itself. All these new and good elements are added but are misusing the purposes that were intended. |
